Forums - Sony - Vita, what's it going to take?

I think Sony is trying to focus too much on bringing the console type of games to a handheld device and it's just not going to work. They have to find that game that caters to the handheld experience. They need an IP that is fun, addictive, kid friendly, and with great replay value. It doesn't even have to be a very deep game, just something that will make kids go back and play for hours.

At the end of he day, kids will be the majority that play handhelds. Sony can't expect a handheld to move hardware when Killzone Mercenary is your big gun in the West. Just wont happen.

The problem is Sony is doing everything it can not to focus on Vita. Seriously man, as I've said - 2 AAA games for a whole year - you can't say that this type of games doesn't work. The only thing we can say is that this few AAA games don't work. How is it possible, that somehow these regular console experiences on the go did work for the PSP? Regular GTA, MGS, GoW, jRPG, GT, Medal of Honour, etc. with regular home console experience somehow turned PSP into a success and are the best selling games. The problem with Vita is that... There is no GTA. No MGS. No GoW. No Medal of Honour. Like 3 jRPGs?

Sony needs to stop giving PS3 AAA games left and right and channel that support to Vita instead and it will sell. I really can't blame people in the West for not caring about Vita, when all we have coming is Borderlands 2 and Gravity Rush 2. Yet another year with 2 AAA games? :(

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

every ps3/xbox360/ps4/xone should have a port on Vita that realeased in the same time as ps3/xbox360/ps4/xone version not a late port.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

3rd partie don't one to make game on Vita not Sony sony don't need to money hat third party to get games on ps3 but not Vita.

Do you think Sony can moneyhat all the games you list?

They should moneyhat GTA and maybe a MGS, that would be enough. The most important thing is they have to make their own games! In 2013 they released on PS3: God of War: Ascension, The Last of Us, Rain, Puppeteer, Beyond: Two Souls, Ni No Kuni, and now Gran Turismo 6 is coming... to the PS3 as well! And they have been already working on PS4 games. All these games should have come to the PSV instead. Do you think Vita would be selling this bad if it had these games as exclusives? Sony is clearly capable of pumping out many quality titles per year, if people got these games this year nobody would doubt the future of the console, nobody would say there are no games, people would buy the console and 3rd parties would join the party without moneyhatting. But Sony is the one who has to make the first move and releasing 2-3 games per year won't cut it for Vita, just like it wouldn't cut it for any other console. We need a year with 8-10 AAA games from Sony, so that we get a big game every single month.

I really don't think Vita is the problem, it's the perception it has with gamers. There are plenty of great games and it's an awesome piece of hardware. I love my Vita. I play it all the time. I'm pretty convinced that any hardcore gamer that spent a full day experiencing all the Vita has to offer would want one. I understand the reality though is for the Vita to be a success, it needs mainstream appeal.

1. Get PS4 Remote Play working exceptionally well.
2. Advertise to people that they can play their Call of Duty and Madden multiplayer from their PS4 remotely on their Vita anywhere they have WiFi.
3. ???
4. Profit!

Disclaimer - I'm not a Call of Duty or Madden gamer, but I know that's what the brasuals (bro casuals) like to play.

Wait, is Sony planning to do something like #2? Or is that something you're recommending it does?

Theoretically if PS4 Remote Play with Vita works as advertised, #2 would work.

That would be awesome. You could power up your Vita on a train or bus and pick up where you left off on PS4. Very cool.

Vita does that now with ps3. Hell so does the PSP. The problem is only a few select titles were coded to do it. PS4 will have it built in to the system instead of coded by the devs, for lack of better understanding. Yes, I've played ICO HD on disk from a Starbuck's AT&T WiFi hotspot. One issue I wish is resolved is the network set up. I was unlucky to have a router not made to easily accept this feature, the auto turn on in the ps3 was designed with the same signal routers use to check connections and therefore it turns my PS3 on and I can't turn it on remotely because of that. PS4 should fix that.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Sony can't support 3 console in the same time i'm sure psv will get a Gran TurismoRain and Pupeteer won't help vita and won't help ps3 or ps4,i don't think we will see another God of war game.

I quiet happy with sony support to vita we get LBp,Killzone,Gravity Rush, hot shoots gold,Soul Sacrifice,Uncharted is still better then 3rd party effort.

Vita sold bad because of third party not the opposite PSP sold really well but 3rd party abondon it rapidly, third party software on wii u  sale is far worst then psv software sale but wii u still get more  third party  effort then psv.

Bold - obviously! Just kill that stupid PS3 support! It's not needed! Look at MS, it has already killed X360 support and nobody cares. It's too late in the gen to care about those few consoles that these games may move. Late adopters won't earn Sony big cash either way, so why give them even more reasons to get your console, when you have a struggling Vita and early adopters who give you most money are slow adopting it? As I've said, all 2013 PS3 exclusives should be Vita's exclusives. Every single one. Rain and Puppeteer wouldn't save Vita, but would help competing with 3DS for kids. Either way, they are both a much better fit on a handheld than on a dying home console. And remember, these games would be just the icing on the cake of The Last of Us, GoW:A, Ni No Kuni, etc. You say Vita will get it's GT one day. Well... when? It needs one NOW. And what the hell is with the idea of releasing GT6 on PS3? Out of all the 3 platforms, this is the most stupid idea. Yes, it will most probably sell most software there, but the number won't be big (GT big - it's just too late in the gen) and it would move hardware on both Vita and PS4. This decisions is just so stupid it's terrifying.

Underlined - 6 games and Vita has been out for 2 years, one of these titles is not even close to being AAA (the Golf). Awesome. Let's face it, when you look at Sony's performance on PSV, we got only 4 AAA games in two years. Uncharted, Killzone, Gravity Rush and LBPV. We will get Tearaway now, so that'll make 5 games in 2 years - do you think that's enough? I know there were AAA games from 3rd parties, like Persona 4G, ACIII:L, NFS:MW, maybe Dragon's Crown and there will be God Eater 2, but this is it. No console can live with such few big games. Both Vita and Wii U prove that. Vita has an incredible number of very good middle tier games and indies, but it needs big shots that draw attention and it just lacks them.

The burden is on Sony to make Vita viable for 3rd parties, not the other way around. It can do it, but it has to work for it. It was easy for PSP, cause people just believed in the Playstation brand and that it would be as awesome as PS2, but it's not the case with Vita. Now Sony has to earn the trust again, cause people are affraid it's gonna be the PS3 just that they aren't sure about the big turnaround considering Sony is focusing on PS4. And PSP died because of people hacking every single console and not buying software, which cause 3rd parties to flee.

To turn things around Sony has to pump out 8-10 big AAA first party games in a single year and get a GTA in that same year. They have to give us ND and SSM games as well as Bend, Ready at Dawn (an Order 1886 spin-off, please?) and other quality studios. They should already stop meddling with the hardware - it's not the problem and it won't save anything. The software is the key.

Sony needs:
Lower price of memory cards
Monster Hunter
GTA
GT
GOW

Then and only then will it put up numbers worth talking about.

I can agree with that. Next year, Sony needs to focus at least 95% of their 1st party efforts on Ps4 and Vita. Ps3 will do fine as long as the 3rd party support is there. Vita is the one that needs the heaviest support from 1st party or else it will continue to not sell great because frankly,3rd party isn't having much of an impact either.

Beyond and Last of us sold well in a 7 years old console that means people still care about ps3 so why don't release game on it,do you think Beyond,Last of us and Gran Turismo would sold that's well on a console with no install base?

If you think first party game will save psv you're wrong yes it will boost vita for somes weeks but it won't save it third party gamecould save it.

Sony made vita devs friendly, it make  ps3 port to Vita easy to do still third party dosn't care  the shitty Call of duty game on Vita do 4 time better then Black ops 2 on wii u still wii u is getting Ghost and Vita no,Assasin Creed Liberation also do good numbers still Ubisoft didn't improove their vita support.

Psp release without security, hack was possible in some month after psp was out so how can you explain  God Of War Chain of Olympus,Tekken Dark Resurection, the 2 gta etc sold well on PSP people stop  buying software when 3rd party abondon it.
