you kind of answered your own question. Consoles are not adjustable so you have to make sure the machine you are spending hundreds of dollars on will at least be able to kind of keep up with whatever devs throw at it. You dont wnat a situation where the machine you buy is so out of date that its getting crappy versions of games or not getting them at all( looking at you Wii)
as for the competitive access, fanboy stuff.

Some devs like the PS4 more, some devs like the Xbone more. And your point is?

It's not that some devs like the PS4 more, it's that they are able to get more out of the PS4. There isn't a single dev or even second hand account saying the xbox is stronger.

I agree with OP, dont understand how people are so intrested in console hardware, you can go on and on how powerfull the xbox one and ps4 will be but they will all ways be lacking against a top pc.

just for something to fanboy's to brag about to me having talent to make a game is more important then having more powerful hardware to make a game
