Looks like a premature statement. 2012 looks like Pokemon did about 1.6 billion between games and liscensing. This year can only be expected to grow much more, thanks to X-Y offering plenty of brand new liscensing oppurtunities. With the Pokemon trading cards still be an industry leader in the TCG market. http://www.licensemag.com/license-global/top-150-global-licensors |
you should also also consider that in 1995 to 2005... only 3 gens (main series) was released... and 2013 up to early 2014 would have one gen on its belt... so the numbers will be more inflated this year compare to the average (even though pokemon is not on it's peak.)

It doesn't matter if COD has a bad reputation or not and this site is supposed to be about sales not what games you love.

did you even read the OP? we are not only counting the actual number of games... we are talking about the whole franchise itself like merchandises or other source of profit base on that franchise

Did you even read the thread ? (Ironic since your the one who created this thread.)
The thread is about who will profit the most this holiday.
Clearly the position goes like this
1. GTA
2. COD
3. Pokemon
Nintendo has sold pokemon for $40 a looooong time whereas each COD game gets sold at $60 on launch. COD is no doubt a beast of a franchise to keep doing it while selling over 20mil each time!

funny cause we are not only talking about the games.....
Pokemon cause of all the toys and stuff, cost of the game, and pokemon bank which is like another $5/year and is pretty essential if you care about collecting pokemon
Than again, it could also be cod cause the population of whinny 10 year olds is ever so growing

I read that Candy Crush makes about $500k per day.
Sounds like a lot, but that's 'just' $182.5m per year. Seeing that it's unlikely an app like that stays very popular for significantly more than a year, it is indeed nothing compared to these three huge franchises.
OT that also convinces me that the microtransactions for Call of Duty are relatively tiny compared to the total revenue of the game. It's definitely not the deciding factor. GTA should win at least this year because of the sheer amount of copies sold. I could agree that Pokémon as a franchise would beat CoD and GTAV because of licencing of merchandise and the tv-show (especially considering Kasz216's source), but purely speaking of the games it's most likely GTAV>CoD>Pokémon. In revenue at least, profit could be more favorable with Pokémon, but I don't know.
CoD because there's always 12yrs old and dumb parents.
