Forums - Sales - Pokemon X Y: 4 million first 2 days!!

Great sales honestly! I can't believe Pokemon is still relevant nowadays. Just a testament to how massive it was for it to carry so far.

But Pokemon sales can't be compared with other franchises since its sales will always be inflated because a lot of fans buy both versions and every kid in the family has his/her own copy since it only allows one save file. It's the only franchise that does that and it works for Nintendo so great for them but the actual userbase is smaller than it appears.

It sold a lot more than I expected but I also didn't expect to be myself so interested in the game. I guess a lot of people like me are getting back into the series after a long hiatus.

Not bad, but it could have been much better, too bad for those people who falsely believed it would do better. "OMG it's the best Pokemon ever, of course it'll sell the best" "OMG there's hype and stuff"....well, guess not.

lol, its the second highest pokemon OP, and it is the best pokemon since early generations and there is hype. Dont kno why your acting like its not. BW had a user base of 140mil+ and sold 6.2mil FW, while XY sold over 4mil in 2 days with a 34mil so yeahhhh.... Take that into consideration

Edit: Its like if GTA6 sold 10mil FW with a User base (X1/PS4) of 60mil. Thats more impressive than GTA5 16mil with over a 160mil user base

Over? It was under (only marginally mind) They basically sold the same ratio to userbase.

But if you wanna look at that comparison you have to take into account dual ownership, and lots of people own both 360 and PS3.

Hes not comparing Pokemon to GTA, hes saying u cant claim a series is declining because it has a smaller debut than the previous entry which had close to 4x the install base upon release.

People are saying Pokemon is declining because it didnt match Black/White FW sales, that would be the same as saying GTA is declining because GTA6 had a weaker debut than GTA5 despite launching on consoles with much smaller install base.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Usually Pokemon games release with a full week in the US so if it did manage 1 mil there in 2 days then it's far from a decline. 5.5m always seemed like a bloated figure for first day sales physical only! Just a slight comparison with FIRST WEEK sales of D/P, B/W and B/W2 (without including others and Canada):

D/P: 3.2 million
B/W: 5.1 million
B/W 2: 2.5 million

Note first week sales of those are 2 days in Japan (same as X/Y), 2 days in Europe (Same as X/Y though Sundays don't count for much as mentioned though), and 7 days in the US (5 more days than X/Y). So really compared to B/W which was hyped beyond measure with a userbase of over 120 million, this is actually doing quite well.

One more note, even if it did around 2.5 million in Japan, then 1 million in US + 500k in Europe is actually pretty decent especially since the holidays are around and will most likely be kind to the game. Very good start imo.

Gamefreak did this on purpose, i mean that have the snorlax laying down, Kanto Starters. There are 27 mega evolution revealed so far and half of them are from gen 1 (i wont name cuz of spoilers). Cool it brought back people

Great opening. No way to downplay these sales. 7m ending holidays?

Don't forget that a good majority of those launch buyers are hardcore Pokemon fans (+/- some fans who may or may not want it at launch), and those will almost always buy Pokemon games at launch, that idea has always remained true. Yes, I know there were a lot of excited people out there, but people were exaggerating with the amount it would sell. It sold well, never said it was bad, it's nice to see Pokemon selling well. However, Install base has very little to do with the launch sales if those same Poke-fans I mentioned (as in, those same people who bought D/P and BW at their launches) were already among the install base or already planned to buy it previously. If install base had everything to do with launch numbers (not saying it doesn't count, it certainly does to a small extent), then BW should have had no problem completely destroying D/P launch numbers, and yet it didn't do that (read the wording correctly, "destroy D/P launch", not simply pass them), despite having well over 5 times the install base when BW released. Besides, it's likely that some of the same people who bought BW at launch also bought X/Y. Though, I still don't understand the big deal over launch numbers, they almost never tell us about whether they'll continue selling through the long run, where I think the "impressive-ness" of games starts to really show. BW's launch numbers were just for show, because despite having such a larger install base than D/P (and after D/P had pretty much died off), it failed to even match D/P in total sales.

And no, the game isn't as good as the older generations: the entire series has gotten way too easy, all of these free Pokemon, such under-leveled trainers and gym leaders, it's quite a list. And the game has noticable technical issues, and terribly optimized for such a simple-looking game. Framerate drops during battles and even in the overworld....hard to believe I'm commenting about framerate in a Pokemon game but those problems, they're there. There's no way I'm placing this game in the same level as those other games with technical issues like those. And no, I'm not one of those people who say nonsense things like "Omg,the gameplay is so good, it washes away any technical issues it has".

Im sorry, but from someone who plays the games for 16 years X and Y are the most streamlined, fun in a pokemon game yet. The music is great, the story's fine. Difficulty and challenge... well this game has the best AI, you can always make things difficult or easy for yourself in the game anyway.

Best ones so far.

Framerate slow downs dont really matter in battle anyway. They're gone when you turn the 3D off ( But they happen in the hordes)

Its just slow camera roation. Not like the game's overworld is laggy

Some of the music is way too similar to the past games. The "defeated trainer" theme is the exact same one as the G/S, and the rival battle music is in the same style as the rival battle music of BW. Music isn't amazing at all, it's kinda meh. The main thing I liked from this game is how Gamefreak really took advantage of the fact that there are so many Pokemon and that they're putting all types of them in places. I've never had a 6 Pokemon party really early in a game before. I remembered when Ralts was rare to find in RSE, now I see it a lot in this route I was in early in the game.

Framerate slowdowns in battle mean that the game isn't well optimized. Considering how the graphics are very simple, there is no reason for framerate to drop. It's not with 3D on (it's worse with 3D on), and it happens randomly, not always. And I've noticed certain places in the overworld that have some slight framerate drops. It's not a big deal, but it's definitely enough to have me notice them when they happen.

They've made a decent enteratnce into 3D, but they still have a lot of work to do for their next game (likely Z version), they need to refine the engine a bit. Make no mistake, I'm liking the game, but not as exaggerative as the other people around here. 8.4-8.6 rated game so far. While they added several nice things into it, some things are meh, like most Pokemon games.
