Forums - Sony - Namco Bandai is still not interested in localizing Vita's Tales of games

Honestly.

From a business perspective.

They'd make more localizing the DS game.

*totally not just saying that because Im not a fan of the updated versions graphics*

I agree. The fact that the DS games never got localized despite the systems install base, doesn't bode well for any Vita localizations

It makes sense since Tales games haven't sold too well on the ps3 considering the install base... Tales of Xillia came out with like 75 millionsh install base and only sold 1 millionsh and maybe it will do 2 million lifetime if they are lucky... Putting the time and effort to localize a game onto the Vita wouldn't be worth it at all

Hopefully, given that Sony don't have a right lot of Japan exclusive Vita content right now, their translation teams they've been setting up are exactly for bringing games such as Tales west.

They only need to go back to their PS1 tactic of publishing and distributing the games in the west and hopefully they can get some of this content across. Although they're not system movers like GTA and Call of Duty, getting these sort of games still would help convince more people to buy a Vita. Which is what Sony needs right now, probably far more-so than Borderlands 2, as much as I can't wait to get that on Vita.

I agree, loalizing one or two JRPGs won't have much of an effect, but if they keep at it and localize more and more games the cumulative effect will be greater than what most people think.  One of my favorite things about the PSP was all the niche JRPGs that got localized, now it seems like Sony has gone the other way and thinks indies can save them...

It's almost like Sega bought Namco and forced their policies on them..

Or the other way around.  Sega used to actually release niche games in the west.  Now they don't.

It doesn't make sense?  They're still making money.  Hell.  They made enough money just on preorders to announce Xillia 2 and Symphonia Chronicles.

The Atelier games are fairly text heavy with a lot of audio.  Maybe not as much audio as there is on the Tales games, but not too far off.  Marginal difference at best to where the Tales games probably cost almost the same to localize as the Atelier games do.  Every Tales game sells better and sometimes way way way better than the Atelier games yet each and every Atelier game is released to the west.

If Disgaea 3 sales are anything to go by, a port, then the Tales games for the Vita will sell more than 100,000.

Just do what Sega did with Yakuza and make them subs only at the very least.

What ever happened to the team(s) at Sony back in the PS1/2 days that used to localize 3rd party Japanese games themselves anyway? I thought that whole #jrpgvita thing was a return to that, so far fuck all has come from that to my knowledge.

EDIT: Seems that's what people are discussing lol, it's a good question though, Sony nowadays don't seem to give a shit outside their western developments.

Any Vita program Sony is doing to localize games for the west is a lot of talk and no action.  The only things that have came out of it are indie games we don't want and that we can buy much cheaper on PC, Borderlands 2 which hasn't released, and Epic Mickey 2.  Nothing but ports.

I'd give it until 2014. It sounds like the team was only formed in the past few months. They might be negotiating content right now (XSEED style). We should know properly by next E3 whether anything of note beyond the Soul Sacrifice games and Freedom Wars is being done for Vita.

SCEE/SCEA currently have very empty Vita release schedules. I mean all I can really think of is Tearaway, Invizimals, Football Manager, Borderlands, God of War HD Collection and Infamous and at least 3 of them are ports/3rd party. I guess I'm just clinging onto the hope that they're putting all their focus on PS4 right now.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Well, since Namco announced that they would be localizing JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle (a game that utilizes a bunch of rock, pop, and fashion references, and thus, potential legal issues), I still have a bit of hope, at least more than I do for Sega and Yakuza 5.

I at least did my part by buying Tales of Xillia.

Kresnik still interested in buying localized Vita 'Tales of' games.
