Only possible way I believe
I am kind of a mad genius when it comes to Pokemon.
Growing up, my brother and I always used to each get one pokemon game, and we'd work together. I'd get blue, he'd get red. I'd get silver, he'd get gold. I'd get...okay, I admit, I skipped gen 3, but I got pearl, he got diamond. Well, that all changed when he got a girlfriend, and she bought him both Black AND white, leaving me with no choice but to make the balance lopsided, or get both myself....so I got both myself! Both he and I had both black AND white.
Thing is, that both made things easier and harder.
For the longest time, we'd both spend entire weekends working at the beginning of the game to ensure we BOTH got ALL THREE STARTERS. We'd both start the game up, and pick our least-desired starter (usually grass), then I'd trade mine over to him, and he'd stop. I delete my game and restart, giving him the second of three starters, only to follow it up for the final time getting my preferred starter. I'd then trade for the first two starters AND his first starter, so he could emulate me by restarting and getting the second, then third starter. We'd both end up on one cart with all three starters, having started six different games, each usually taking 1-2 hours to get to the point you can trade online (Black and white required you to beat the second gym before trading.)
Well, now we both had both games, so I concocted a brilliant but time consuming method to beating BOTH Games and getting everything! Once I managed to procure all three starters, I'd then proceed on one of the two versions straight up to the next gym. Once I completed the third gym, I'd trade all my collected 'team' pokemon over to the other game, and go from the second gym to the third, then skip past and go to the fourth; upon completion I'd trade over to the first version and leapfrog until I was done the 5th gym on that cart. Kind of like taking steps, every major trade bringing me closer to the end.
Simple, but hard to describe when you're in a constant fight with your eyelids for the right to stay awake.
So that's what I do, only this time I had to put in double the work! Start the game, get your Gen VI starter, play through past the first gym to Luminose city, and get my Gen I starter, resulting in having all six starters! That said, I'm just past the third gym, and I've abandoned the starters. I'm on a quest to hopefully get all 450 pokemon in the game, and once I level up the starters, I'll likely be dropping them from my team with the plausible exceptions of Charizard and Greninja for Fly and surf. PRoblem is, there are SO many good pokemon in this game that I just can't have only one team!
So I have two. One for each game, as it were. Twice the game, twice the teams! Still looking to maybe switch some stuff up, but here's what I have so far:
Lucario - Fighting/Steel
Aegislash - Steel/Ghost
Gardevoir - Psychic/Fairy
Tyrantrum - Rock/Dragon
Charizard - fire/flying
Garchomp - Dragon/Ground
Aurorus - Rock/Ice
Greninja - Water/Dark
Chesnaut - Grass/Fighting
Delphox - Fire/Psychic
Jolteon - Electric
Rhyperior - Rock/Ground
Could probably do with some trimming of the fat, as some types (Steel, Rock, Dragon, Fire, psychic, fighting) are repeated, but that's the point of having 12 in your party: Mix and match according to what you need. If I had to trim, I'd likely get rid of Chesnaut (I hate grass and already have a fighting), Delphox (already have better fire and psychic types), and Rhyperior (Rock is already twice represented and Garchomp is ground). That leaves me with 9. Not so shabby.
I kind of want a MEtagross though! Psychic/steel is a good combo and the stats are amazing!
Anyway, I know I'm late to the party, but I'm loving the game overall. If not for the fact that, so far, the story is barely there and disappointing when in action, I'd put it beside black and white as my favorites (maybe even higher.)
As it stands, my rankings:
Gen V
Gen VI
Gen I
Gen II
Gen IV
Gen III
Why not?

Of those listed I'd probably go with Greninja, Aegislash, Garchomp, Gardevoir, Charizard, and Jolteon. All different types and they can all cover for each others weaknesses.

lol for X/Y I think it would have been easier just to reset until you get a female starter, then breed it and trade off the babies for all the other starters. Also, what kind of mad genius can't figure out their pokemon team? Of those listed I'd probably go with Greninja, Aegislash, Garchomp, Gardevoir, Charizard, and Jolteon. All different types and they can all cover for each others weaknesses. |
Gasp! No Lucario?! I have lucario in ALL my teams! he/she's my favorite pokemon!
And I Tried the "go for female" starter thing, didn't work. After a dozen tries, it just didn't work.

Heh, i got a female starter. For a while most of the Pokemon I was catching were female, didn't get a male until Bulbasaur.
Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
I think the chance of a female is 1 in 8. Sometimes you'll get 2 females in a row and sometimes 20 eggs later your lambasting the Y chromosome for existing.
Edit 1 in 8 for a starter.
They needa make an item that can affect what gender pokemon hatching from eggs will be!
