I mean really to the people who come and discourage threads like this. As a nintendo fan i kno wiiu sales are terrible and this isnt as much as the wiiu needs but seriously does people expect it to have 2000% increase to be satisfied?

You understand this concept for Wii-U, but you seemed to be making bafflingly high predictions for Vita sales after the remodel release in Japan :P

Nice boost, won't do much overall though cause all those consoles were sold to Nintendo fans that would have bought the console sooner or later anyway.

I agree very much with Seece on this, Nintendo tried a gamble with the Wii U and lost it. Now they are left with an underpowered console and an controller that is seen as nothing as more than gimmick by most of the market. They tried to capture the Wii audience again and failed and no established Nintendo franchise will get that audience back now, because it was the Wiis concept that sold the games and not the other way around.

Nintendo fans need to ask themselves, who does the Wii U appeal to? The Core gamer that doesn't have a major interest in Nintendo software? No. The Dudebro COD and Madden/Fifa player? No. The Soccer moms? No. The only group of people that are interested in the Wii U are the Nintendo fans and it's relatively easy to guess how many of those are out there just look at the Gamecube. So if we assume that the Wii/DS/3DS have made a couple million more Nintendo fans, then I think it would be realistic to predict about about 30 mio Wii U at max.

You fail to explain what makes the U so different than the Wii at capturing the Wii audience. Is it just the controller? Cause we know that worked with the DS audience.

Again, this is just more 0 logic using numbers to justify a pre-conception (controller is not good for casual). Maybe Nintendo failed in its marketing of the U as appealing to the Wii audience, but from everything we see it looks like they're doing everything to reverse that: WW HD, Wii Fit, Wii Party, 3D World, MK8, price, etc. etc.

But............ I thought nobody wanted a remake of a 2003 game.... Yeah sure...... Just wait until Mario 3D World and Tropical Freeze get released.

Nobody didnt.  Its tracking significantally under what the gamecube version did and the anemic low levels cause the Wii U current spike (since Nintendo has had multiple game droughts).  Since Nintendo gave no actual level of the sales, who knows what context that 685% is in.  I completely understand what Seece is trying to say here.

Nintendo fans constantly giving significance to insignificant numbers when it comes to the Wii U.

Tbf, Sony fans do the same thing with Vita.

In any case, mentioning % instead of #'s is a spin tactic. Selling abysmally one week and selling badly the next is progress. Just not enough progress to start claiming Wii U is no longer flopping.

Arius, out of curiosity, do you still check out Malstrom´s blog?

On occasion. You?

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

@Seece and doubters, for the record, my prediction, as it always has been, is that the U will follow the DS/3DS curves of success. Slow-taking, but once momentum gets going they will be unstoppable.

I was not positive in the cube days, I knew something was wrong. Something was wrong with the U branding during launch but now they are taking every measure to remedy that. The U brading is now following more and more the Wii/DS branding in terms of price, bundles, game design and input method, so that's ultimately how they will win.

This thread reminds so much of the "Vita got x% boost" type of threads, this is like a gold mine.

You are a very contradictory person. You make the Vita thread with the line picture and then you make very high predictions. Very weird.

It's just that you're defending Wii-U's percentage increase because it's obviously not going to be ridiculous, which is true.  685% is impressive.  But for Vita, which had dropped below 10k long before they announced the new model, you seemed to think that a 1000%+ increase was reasonable.  I found your different stances on the two consoles interesting when I saw your post in this thread.

I´m not that optimistic, but when do you expect the system to truly start getting off the ground?

This holiday/early 2014 and a second jump next holiday/early 2015 (with the release of Zelda).

Again, the reason is games and price, and of course branding (targetting the casuals, girls and younger teens and kids).
