They talk about the perception of women characters and they affect society as a whole.

Wat.

Video games affecting society as a whole.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

wfz: they're not saying they aren't in it. They're saying that a lot of them aren't be treated with equality.

I added in "presented" to clarify. It amazes me that people are so upset about the digital presentation of fake females is when the entertainment society as a whole has these same presentational issues.. with..real..*real* women.

If that's not an issue, why are video games?

"We've taken leaps and bounds in the games industry to stop sterotyping races (though not completely gone) and ethnicites to a certain extent."

We have? - Black characters still continue to get the short end of stick. Funny and Ironic best black characters come from Japan. Afro Samurai, Raven, Eddy Gordo, The Weapon Dealer from Bayonetta,

wfz: You make a fair point. The movies and TV industry does have similar problems. And very much it's the kind of thing where they say to themselves "how can we present themselves in a good way?" instead of "how should they look.

Arrow is having this problem, they recently cast The Flash, and he's a 22-year-old kid from Glee. A lot of fans aren't happy with that because they believe the CW is going for the "young attractive actor/actress" to fill all their roles. And it is a problem. and we do notice it. I think the only caveat is that these are real people who choose to do these roles whereas gaming is "fake" females and the developers create who they are. It's not the best argument for sure, but's its true. Both things should be fixed though.

xxain: I never said it was perfect, and some of those characters (Raven, Eddie Gordo) have been around a while so they honestly don't count in some respects. But think of Barter from FFVII and how he was and how we don't see as many characters like that in games today. It's not perfect, but it's a start.

Like nearly all podcasts, I couldn't stand the poor speaking and terrible production for long. I only listened until they got to the same realization that Nintendo had in 2006: You don't try to make good games for girls, you try to make good games for everybody.

Even the designers who have figured that one out could use more follow through, though. Mario 3D World finally brings back playable Peach, can we have more playable Zelda, please? And Bioware works hard to try to be inclusive of all genders and sexualities, but adopted ever more tough guy soldier tropes in every Mass Effect game.

I'll admit the sound quality wasn't the best, but it wasn't terrible. I could hear them all relatively fine. As in all things, it comes down to equipment.

A friend of mine listened to the podcast and said that though it was good they missed some key examples that could've bolstered their case.

He mentioned a lot of games but the big one was GTA, and how they've never done a female main character for that series.

If you listen to the podcast (in my signature) and think of something that you've noticed, feel free to mention it. They say at the end they might do a rebuttal based on comments they get.

Huh? Raven and Eddie Gordo are cool black characters. Why would age of character creation matter? and Why would you even bring up barret if that was the case?

You're right, Raven and Eddie Gordo are awesome black characters....so why did you bring them up like they were a bad thing?

Barret was a reference as to how time has changed things.
