Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto on working with western devs on Nintendo franchises, is all about trust

I'd prefer them keep their IP strictly internal apart from 3D Metriod. That's the ONE game that I don't think they could pull off on their own.

I'm pretty sure an internally developed Metroid game would demolish anything Retro is capable of. The last major one Nintendo did was Super Metroid, which to this day is the best in the franchise.

The thing about their more minor franchises (like Metroid, Star Fox, F-Zero) is that they're not big enough to use Nintendo's A-Teams on them.

Retro isn't outsourcing though. Retro is a Nintendo owned studio.

While this is of course true, I find it interesting that they consider it kind of outsourcing - I think that shows that despite the fact that Retro is Nintendo owned, Miyamoto (and by extension I would assume most of Nintendo's top-brass) still don't consider them 'part of the family'. Another example of just how conservative Nintendo is - it makes for great games though so I try not to complain.

Trust gets you Aliens: Colonial Marines.

When you outsource, keep them under a magnifying glass every second.

Have you ever posted anything positive?  Because I haven't seen it.

My post was neither positive nor negative.

It was negative, because Aliens: Colonial Marines was anything but a success.

@OP. Thanks for the news, I always love learning more about how Nintendo deals internally and with external partners.

No he means how gearbox screwed sega over

So how is that not being negative exactly? Basic premise of the post:

Trust gets you screwed over.

That is a negative statement.

He means to trust but dont be an idiot about it

Well, you have to be carefull with the western developers all the time. Look at how greedy they have become. Besides, trust is not a thing of a few years.

Prime Hunters was decent. although the Prime 1-3 were amazing.

F-Zero is another franchise i wish they'd outsource to someone, like SEGA or those Shin'en dudes. F-Zero GX was amazing and still looks good even by today's graphical standards.

F-Zero GX WAS amazing, totally agree. But the first F-Zero and the N64 version were both great as well. I think if they wanted to, they could easily do that themselves. It would probably become more casual though seeing as how Nintendo toned down the difficulty in all their games over the last decade, but maybe that would be a good thing.

I said 3D Metroid. Nintendo has always been great at the 2D versions (Fusion etc). I just don't think they'd be able to do a Prime like game as good as what Retro did. The FPS genre has been the one thing, to my knowledge, they haven't attempted.

It was actually Miyamoto's idea to take Metroid into First Person, you underrate EAD and other big Nintendo Studios a lot. It's like with Rare, Rare gets all the credit for the games but Nintendo helped them a lot. And it was shown after they didn't cooperate with them anymore.
