I'm pretty sure an internally developed Metroid game would demolish anything Retro is capable of. The last major one Nintendo did was Super Metroid, which to this day is the best in the franchise.

The thing about their more minor franchises (like Metroid, Star Fox, F-Zero) is that they're not big enough to use Nintendo's A-Teams on them.

 

Retro isn't outsourcing though. Retro is a Nintendo owned studio.


While this is of course true, I find it interesting that they consider it kind of outsourcing - I think that shows that despite the fact that Retro is Nintendo owned, Miyamoto (and by extension I would assume most of Nintendo's top-brass) still don't consider them 'part of the family'. Another example of just how conservative Nintendo is - it makes for great games though so I try not to complain.


Well, you have to be carefull with the western developers all the time. Look at how greedy they have become. Besides, trust is not a thing of a few years.
