Valve just filed for the registration of the trademark “Half-Life 3″ in the European Union. The application has been registered on September the 29th and is currently under examination.

Is it a sign that the game is finally coming, or just a defensive move to prevent some trademark squatter to get his greedy hands on the name?

For now we have no way to know, and maybe we shouldn’t yet get our hopes up until an official announcement, but below you can see a screencap of the trademark search page. No equivalent trademark is visible on the homepage of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, but that’s normal, as US trademarks tend to appear later than European ones.

Is it finally happening?

Just wanted to join a hype wagon for whatever... ;-(

Well, frankly they'd be dumb to push the Steam Machines without a heavy-hitter like HL3 to back them up.

The question is, do they have the guts to make it Steam exclusive, keep it off of consoles? It would be one heck of a risk, but it might be the kind of risk they need to take if they want their new hardware to take off.

Are you really telling me Valve has wait 9 years (Half Life 2 launched in 2004) to register the sequel?! ... I don't know what to say or think.

At least now the game has a chance.
