Forums - Microsoft - Windows Phone doubles market share in Europe, 1% behind iOS in Germany

Windows Phone is continuing to make inroads over the Atlantic, almost doubling its share of new phones sold in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK.

According to Kantar Worldpanel, Windows Phone has now hit 9.2 percent share in those key European countries, up from just 5.1 percent share last year.

Most interesting of all, perhaps, is Windows Phone’s performance in Germany, where Microsoft’s mobile platform hit 8.8 percent. That’s just one single percentage point
below iPhone — a massive achievement. In addition, Windows Phone hit 10.8 percent share in France and 12 percent share in Great Britain, the first time it has ever hit double digits in either of those two countries.

its growing alright. but its still not as big as andriod or iOS (in most places). its still miles behind andriod for the most part. but windows phone is finally starting to crack into the mobile space and apple and google better watch out so MS dont catch them of guard. it will be interesting to see how things will develop now that MS has bought nokia

With all the advertisement for iphones i thought apple has a bigger market share here in Germany.

Yeah, read this earlier.

Windows mobile is doing very well in Europe now and is a bona fide option. The US is still slow though.

Anyhow. I'm actually wishing my 920 contract away so I can upgrade. Interested to see the new Nokia announcements later this month.

920? I'm still on 800, held my mates 925 the other day and I'm desperate for one now, as well as a Surface 2, boy he really teased me :(

He works for MS tho and can get me a discount, so I should upgrade soon

I'm still surprised they aren't doing better, as the OS looks nicer than Android and the phones are about as cheap. I wonder if Google not making apps for the platform is holding them back?

Ya I've been seeing a lot more people here with Windows phones lately. And people are generally very impressed when I let them try my lumia, I've had quite a few friends switch over.

I'm thinking about maybe upgrading to the 1020 soon

Wow, it is growing alot faster than I would have thought. If the games later on will work seamless with X1, it could strengthen the brand even more.

Where are the haters? There must be some negative spin that someone can put on this.

I'm only 10 months into my contract so I'm stuck with my (awesome)820 for now. Funny to think it will probably be my last Nokia phone after all these years. Roll on the Microsoft Lumia range.

What is EUS?

Not surprising.. that cheap 150 euro Nokia Lumia 520 is doing real great.. it's the best selling Windows device right now.. http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/nokia-lumia-520-is-microsoft-s-best-selling-device-right-now-1185024?src=rss&attr=all
