for me it has made me stop buying games on this gen in prep for next gen. Its sonys loss to not have it. I will just wait for the gaikai stuff next year.

After the new WiiU update - hell yes, I do!

Me! I use the feature on my Wii, Wii U, PS3 until it died, 360, Vita, and 3DS. I can't imagine buying a consols without the feature. Newerr games don't age as quickly as PS1 games so bacwards compatibility is a must for me.

 I'm just using honestly to give my honest opionion. BC has never been a factor in me buying a console, and it's definitely not affecting me buying a PS4. It's a feature I have almost never used, so I really just don't need it enough to find a lack of to be bothersome.

Its not absent from next gen console. Wii U has it built in.

It saves time, money and space to offer it in one unit instead of 2.

When I got my PS2, I dumped my PS1. When I got my Wii, I sold my Gamecube. When I got my PS3, I sold my PS2. I wish my Wii U could play Gamecube games, to be honest! Half the time, the games I play on my 3DS are DS games. Just having a PS3, 360, and Wii U under my TV and having access to six consoles worth of games is something I definitely appreciate.

Earlier this year, I did a Halo franchise marathon which, thanks to backwards compatibility, included Halo 2. The game in my 360 as we speak is the awesome Jade Empire. My most played game on my Vita is, without a doubt, Final Fantasy Tactics. I don't know about anybody else but it's a feature I truly appreciate.

I played Gamecube games a decent amount on my Wii.
PS3 was my first Sony system, so I diddn't have any PS2 games so it didn't really matter, but luckily the HD remakes allow me to play many of the highlights of the PS2.

You gotta love the feeling of entitlement among today's gamers. They feel they should be given anything they want.

Newsflash: From the introduction of the NES, there were ZERO major home consoles that were backwards compatible with their predecessors up until the release of the PS2. (The only other one was the Genesis being backwards compatible with the Master System, but that required the user to buy a separate module). And as far as I know, nobody EVER complained about not being able to play their old games on their new systems.

Then Sony went and spoiled everyone by making the PS2 b/c with PS1 games, and now all of a sudden everyone expects that every console will at least be b/c with the previous generation's library. Nevermind the logistics involved in doing this, from the added costs to the different architecture between console generations....

Nintendo made the Wii b/c with the GC because the Wii was essentially two GCs duct-taped together in the first place, so it wasn't much of a stretch nor much of an added cost (other than including the controller and memory ports). And the Wii U is essentially a Wii in HD with a tablet controller.

M$ made the 360 b/c with select Xbox games via emulation. And then the PS3 tried to be b/c with both PS1 and 2 until Sony realized how futile this was and removed all b/c for PS2 because of the different architecture, which is also the reason why PS4 is not b/c with PS3.

But as usual, the spoiled entitlement generation wants everything their way. Of course, they wouldn't want to fork over the extra $$$ it would cost if the Xbone and PS4 were in fact b/c. Not only should these gamers have everything they want, but it should also be FREE, dammit!

It's the same for me when it comes to the Gamecube. Some of my all time favourite games are on that console (Twilight Princess (I don't like the Wii controls...), FZero GX, Paper Mario TTYD, Metroid Prime, etc...). But I got this problem covered now with Dolphin. Which plays the games great in 1080p.  Native 480p on a 1080p screen looks blurry as hell, so I just downloaded my games and play them on my PC (which is hooked on my main TV anyway) in Full HD glory. :P

Free online, too. All that stuff is so last-gen.
