Forums - Gaming - Assassin's Creed 4 delayed on Wii U, to launch with PS4/X1 versions (Europe only, apparently)

You're right, they don't need to at all. Y'see, there's this publisher you may have heard of called Gameloft...

cause not supporting WIi U is what got them where they are at?

I think the point is that Gameloft is part of Ubisoft.

Indeed, that is the point. Ubisoft has had this exit strategy ready longer than anybody. They might not need to use it, but all the publishers are glancing at the door nervously because they know what happened to THQ could happen to them. Square Enix is already packing its bags for the journey.

The problem is that the collective console game industry is apparently incapable of embracing innovation, so it can only come from outside. The Wii U is barely innovative, and the industry still can't embrace it. In fact, they'd just as soon watch it die. The Xbox One, actually the most innovative console this generation, is only being supported because the innovation is optional. All the games worth playing will be designed for the gamepad, while the Kinect is used as a glorified remote control.

Meanwhile, growth in console gaming is stalling and the risks and barriers to entry have never been higher. The Wii U is not some kind of lynchpin in this whole process — that was the Wii's role — it's just one more consequence of it.

What will happen when EA, Activison and Ubisoft are the only console publishers standing? They will enact their dream world of only one game console. It may already be here as Microsoft and Sony fans bicker over which box has faster RAM and more cloud. And it will slowly suffocate the dinosaur that console gaming has become.

Wow, people sure are sensitive to get on the OP's case just for posting news. Wii-u owners sensitive confirmed?

What's there to complain about? They are treating the WiiU like they treat the PS4 and Xbox One. That's what every Nintendo fan wants. 3 weeks of wait is not even that long.

well you have to start somewhere and here is UBisoft starting, BUT if it is too late then they might as well just pull the plug to hell with how forum goers feel. Pull the plug now make the games that sell on Sony MS systems and then make whatever sells on Ninty ones and call it a day. Everyone is happy that way.

If you (and Ubisoft) concede that they're just getting started, then you should be able to adjust your expectations accordingly and not blame Nintendo or their consumers when games sell less on Wii U than on any other console.

Wii U didn't launch with a Killzone or Halo game. It's not going to attract as many PS3/360 owners as the PS4/X1 will; that's obvious. Third parties have to build their brand power on Wii U if they want to sell their games to that market. That process takes years. Dropping a few games on the system and backing out after a few months or a year is not a strategy for success on a new platform.

That is if third parties WANT to have success on a new platform, unless that requires too much effort for them and they want their games to practically sell themselves by default as on Sony and Microsoft platforms.

Just don't pretend in a few months that there isn't a very good reason Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty and so on are selling better on PS4/X1 than on Wii U.

so long as it matches ps4/xb1 versions of the game and is superior to ps360... idc.

Granted I'm only buying Rayman and WatchDogs this year anyways.

Why would it match the PS4/XB1 versions? Expectations like that are not realistic. Or were you talking about the release date?

Because its an old game primarily build on last-gen tech. Watch_dogs will show a greater difference as that was built on next-gen tech. Granted, I don't expect 100% identical... but a lot closer.

I mean AC3 with virtually no real time to upgrade was at par in some areas, worse in some and better in some. Clearly a mixed back. But AC4 should show a direct improvement over PS360.

There, hope this makes people happy. Is the thread title clear enough for you? Are you still afraid people might think the game was delayed further?

Quite happy, thank you. Otherwise it creates a far more negative impression.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

At least it`s just a few weeks and not months.
Still, releasing in competition with other big titles from Nintendo... don`t know...

So what´s the deal ? It will be released along with next-gen consoles. Then, technically the WiiU is a console of the 8th generation, so what´s the fuzz about it?

Seriouly, videogame journalism is just full of morons. They make a fuzz about anything and everything Nintendo related.

Ubisoft sure does love to postpone there games on Wii U. Don't be surprised to see the same thing that happened to Raymond Legends happen to Assassins Creed.

I'm sure Wii U owners won't mind as long as it is not gimped.

Define "Gimped."

Well, for me that would constitute a product that is inferior in quality - such as poor framerate and omitted items - when compared to other versions (current gen especially) or if they'll exclude things available on the other versions such as DLC (which has occured with other Wii U games such as NFS and the upcoming Batman game which will not have MP available - at least at launch). Most Wii U owners have been complaining about inferior ports over the past few months. In general, they didn't seem to mind the delay with respect to NFS since it was superior in many ways (albeit it had its drawbacks as well). I think that notion will hold with AC4 as well.

Let me just start by saying that in general, the Wii U should have all of the same in-game content the current gen versions have.  This is true and just plain stupid when it happens to any game on any platform.

However some people seem to think that publisher's are "Gimping" the Wii U version out of laziness.   This is not true, and there are very real reasons some things are not in Wii U versions.  Examples:

-Why would publishers sell DLC on Wii U when most people have no built in storage?  It costs money to make and most can't buy it!

-Again, not having a standard HDD makes installing games unfeasable and as such performance suffers due to slow texture streaming.

-Maybe Batman should have MP on Wii U, but then again Nintendos online infrastructure is a generation behind even the PS360.  It is not as simple as "Putting in MP."  With such a small online community, it probably wasn't worth the money.

Xbox Arcade/4GB owners shouldn't complain about not being able to play GTA V without buying an HDD, and Darks Souls players on PS3 shouldn't complain about no cross-game voice chat with their friends.   All systems have their weaknesses.  Sometimes there is no solution because a machine just isn't as capable as you think it should be, and you just have to live with what you bought...
