Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox 360: 6 Things it Does Better

Despite some reliability issues

Yep. That's 7 things it does 'better' now(Break down quicker)

Good to see this site is still going

i want a 360 now

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!

bet with *no one yet* that the combined first week of Monster Hunter 3 in america and europe will be 600k or more! winner changes looser sig and avatar for two months!

To all who are talking about how the situation with the PS3 will improve:

This is a list of what the Xbox 360 does better, not a list of what the Xbox 360 will do better. It's talking about how things actually are now, not how they might be in the future.

Systems owned: Nintendo 64, GameCube, Xbox 360, Atari 7800, Genesis, PlayStation, Dreamcast, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS.

Year-end predictions (April 6, 2008):

  • DS: 94 million (96.0)
  • Wii: 46 million (44.4)
  • PSP: 45 million (43.6)
  • X360: 27 million (27.3)
  • PS3: 24 million (19.4)
  • PS2: 124 million (123.7)

On a serious note. My brother is on his 3rd 360 (one about every 6 month). Personally I could never feel good about owning a system with a poor track record for reliability. I enjoy playing games on it...don't get me wrong on that. But to own one is just a big no no for me. It's like getting a new car and having it needing replacment every 6 month becuase of faults.

"Friend management" Agreed
"communication" Da
"Custom soundtracks" Ja

"Downloads"
I call hyperbole on this one. Since the PS3 has background downloading the difference is that the PS3 requires you to click on install? How terrible. On the other hand the Playstation Store is not very nice (read f**king terrible)

"User interface"
Please? Clean interface? I will readily concede that the 360 interface has more features cramped into it but the XMB is a much cleaner, better-looking experience that everyone understands instantly. When I see the orange/green and purple mess that is the 360 interface I would shoot the designer.

But yes Microsoft is a better software developer than Sony and they did one-up them on the networking features. I still think that the user interface once again proves that while they are able to provide the functionality they couldn't add a bit of style if their live depended on it.

user interface? the XMB is far superior...

custom sound tracks.. some PS3 games have it and in-game XMB will be released sooner or later.

Digital downloads.. now thats a piss poor reason... of course a 500MB game will take longer then 150MB game to download. As for the auto-install, its there if you download your files individually.

Web. the PS3's and Wii's web browsers say hi. And HOME says im coming.

Truly a garbage list put together by the biased that is gamepro.

Guess every gaming magazine and online editorial must be biased cuz all of them agreed that Live is better than both.

not all. And Live has features that are better but the PSN is FREE and has dedicated servers making the actual online gaming better.

PC gaming is better than console gaming. Always.     We are Anonymous, We are Legion    Kick-ass interview   Great Flash Series Here    Anime Ratings     Make and Play Please

4 out of 6 of the things you say the 360 does better are all based on Internet access, which is still used by a minority of Xbox 360 owners.  The fifth is subjective -- personally I find the blades interface slow and appauling.

Many if not all of these gripes will change with HOME. Save for the downloading then installing thing, which is dumb.

That argument is getting weaker and weaker with each passing day. Check out the link below which outlines how their are critical flaws in Home's development, many of which are considered irreversable.

http://gamer.blorge.com/2008/02/09/sonys-oft-delayed-home-sure-to-disappoint-ps3-users/

It is important to note that that is a reader-submitted article, however it is reflective of the general increase in doubt within the industry over Home's capabilities, a general decline in Sony's hype for the software (if you recall, the last time Sony hyped something and then started shutting up about it was Lair) and the delays the program has seen.

Edit: Whilst the bulk of the article is user-submitted, the beginning two sentences, written by the site, can be seen below:

"We all know that Sony’s Home online service, similar to Xbox Live, isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.  The Home service is plagued with performance and security concerns."

Lol - that's the funniest, least informed, least useful blog I've seen in a while.  Home might well underwhelm, but whoever put this 'article' together clearly doesn't have a single fact to present - if they turn out to be right, it will be an accident only.

==> starcraft, plz, dont come with such POOR link. It is SO biased, it can't be taken seriuously...

I'm not betting anything on Home, but I doubt it wil completely bomb as this poor article is saying

Time to Work !

I'm a wii owners and i am not excited about anything on this list enough to make me buy a 360. Seems most flaws with this article were covered, 360 has more features but as to better that's for individuals to judge for themselves. I personaly don't care for any of these features. From online all i want is the ability to play a game online with ease and not all this extra fluff on all three consoles.

Let's not forget the most important advantage: The 360 changes colors. Today it might be white, and the next day it might be RED!!! LOL
