Forums - Sony - Sixaxis Motion sensing support failed to impress.

Am So glad that Sony made a loss when i bought My 60Gig PS3 - they wont be getting it back from me untill i see an FPS game with motion pointing if ever that happens. Till then my PS3 is just a DVD/Blu-ray player.

Why the hell would you want that? Personally, I think the IR pointing of the wiimote is a big enough step down from a lightgun or mouse. Although I've never actually used an air-mouse, motion pointing seems to me to be an even less precise input method for FPS. Tilting the controller to aim your reticle at high speeds seems like an impossiblility. At least with IR you are vaguely pointing in the right direction.

When you talk about the motion controls in RE4 and UC, are you actually referring to the IR pointer? As far as I know the accelerometers are only used for reloading and shaking at certain points, which I did not find particularly useful.

"The Sixaxis and WiiMote both have a nearly identical XYZ mems accelerometer - WiiMote has IR light gun pointing also. "

Aw come on. We are talking about a sports game and two controllers: One you hold in your hand like a bat/racket/laser pointer ... The other one you grap with two hands. Do you see a connection?
They need to use it when it makes sense but not more often. (Flying in Ratchet is fun for example or the shooting part of Heavenly Sword but it sucks when they tack it on like in Resistance.)

Also, have you played Folklore? That is pretty much the only game where I think the Sixaxis was a great addition.

@ aj_habfan, yeah it does work really well there

well it is pretty good, but sony quickly did this after they saw what ninty did

WiiMote IR pointing is capable of accuracy if you calibrate it each time you play it's much like a light gun. On Wii the IR pointing gives a tremendous improvement in play speed in metroid etc.

FPS games are supposed to be fast i would rather rush in swat style than sit back and snipe so a fast rather than highly accurate aiming system is ok and perhaps within what the sixaxis could do. Sadly FPS games on Consoles are like permanent slow motion as it takes so long to aim or look around with thumbsticks. Epics UT3 was supposed to implement motion pointing But they bailed out of this and gave mouse support instead - another Sony failure they should have had Both.

PS3 number 1 fan

The only 3 games I tried it on was Ressistance ( yeah , the enemy escape is pretty neet ) , RR 7 ( its a bit basic , but it work overall ) and Hevanly Sword , but there it really seems that its just tacked on ...

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

After trying out MotorStorm and Warhawk with the SIXAXIS. I really have been turned down on this feature. It's a poor excuse to use against the Wii-mote and Sony knows it.

I tried to use it in MotorStorm, but I would always switch back to conventional analog controller. Excite Truck on the Wii makes good use of the Wii-mote but in comparison with MotorStorm and SIXAXIS.

Warhawk makes some use of the SIXAXIS, but for some reason I prefer the analog control-scheme, it's one of the main reasons why Lair for the PS3 does not appeal to me and for several other PS3 owners.

Currently Playing: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii), Halo 3 (X360), Brain Age (NDS), Pokemon Diamond (NDS), Warhawk (PS3)

sixaxis was too rushed, sony did it to copy Nintendo but ijust didn't make a good job of it. maybe they didn't test it enough or didn't put enough resources towards the r & d of it. developer's are also to blame, they've failed to really take advantage of the sixais and in most cases the wii remote too. they must try harder.

Yep. The sixaxis is a pure panic controller. They simply discovered what Nintendo were doing to late this time, and the result is hilarious.

yeah - once again trying to bea jack of all trades and master of none (PSP). Anyways, using the SIXAXIS controller like a Wiimote(pointing) would be extremely awkward given the shape
