Forums - Nintendo - supporting evidence that Wii U main issue is software

They won't now...the console has no momentum unlike the PS4 and X1 that have all the momentum.  If they waited the Wii U launch line up would have been way more enticing than the X1/PS4 one and some gamers that would have got a PS4/X1 would have switched to Wii U.  Seeing Wii U sales higher than X1 and PS4 would have made third party developers make games for Wii U even if they had to scale down or w/e.  Right now I don't see Wii U sales comparing to X1 and PS4's.

Seeing the games available by this Nov./Dec., along with seeing that Wii U is $100 cheaper than PS4 and $200 cheaper than XOne, WITH a pack-in game, a great upcoming indie game lineup, and no mandatory pay-for-online-play structure (ie free online), the console will STILL inevitably present a very attractive package to some buyers, and many will likely be swayed. Not only that, but while you're on point stating that PS4 has a healthy amount of perceived momentum heading into it's launch, XOne doesn't have much to speak of outside of die-hard MS fanboys.

Translation: The Wii U will be just fine this holiday, and will hold it's own.

If only Nintendo had something other than yet another 2D platformer and mini-game collection to launch their new console with (and had made the damn thing more powerful than PS360 instead of on par with them), they wouldn't be in the predicament they are currently in.

Wii U, especially the GPU and RAM, are considerably stronger than the PS3 or 360. These are well known facts by now. Trying to state otherwise at this point in the game is, I'm sorry, borderline trolling.

...And the software issue is 2 fold - lack of compelling and mass-market appealing games, and lack of GAMES in general. Though Mario Kart, Smash, 3D Mario, Wii Fit, Wii U Party, and DKC are a start, I don't think that's going to be quite enough.

Not quite enough for what? To make it sell like Wii? Probably not. Win this generation? Probably not. Boost sales and turn a profit? it could very well be enough for that

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

1. The price.. Too expensive for its hardware power.
2. The Wii U remote not used properly for games. Basically, the remote was not involved in the games as much as the Wii remote control.
3. No software for almost a year.
4. The move revolution stopped, no one gets up from his sofa in order to play games. The previous Wii advertising policy was cancelled.

In Short, it is not only a software problem .... Several mistakes caused the present situation and Ninty has to work hard....

It won't be enough to turn things around, at least not significantly. Nintendo needs a much more stready stream of these AAA titles. If Nintendo reverts back to their usual software drought post-2014 like they tend to do (after the mentioned games have been released, the Wii U is just going to drop quickly back to its dismal levels. The price cut will help a bit, but a price drop can only do so much without the games to supplement it.

That said, those games WILL be enough to make me purchase the console, assuming they're as solid as I think (well maybe not Wii Fit or Party, but the other ones).

Well in the OP I acknowledged that there are other factors but the number 1 issue is software.

A console can be the cheapest, most powerful and have the best controller but wont sell a whole lot if it doesnt have the right software.

For now, I agree. But what about in a year if the system still doesn't pick up? Then we can't blame SW, but something more fundamental with design and public opinion. That's what I fear.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

If only Nintendo waited to launch this year...they would have destroyed the X1 and PS4 with their exclusive launch line up.

that sentence makes no sense. they will destroy X1 and ps4 with those exclusives. releasing at the same time would be a disadvantage.

you are saying it yourself: the wii u lineup is better than ps4/xone (it really is). but releasing at the same time wouldn't steal as much sales as releasing first. we all know that ps4/xone buyers for 2013 are the diehard fans who would buy those anyway. by releasing first and gaining ground, they can steal more sales after 2013.
