They won't now...the console has no momentum unlike the PS4 and X1 that have all the momentum.  If they waited the Wii U launch line up would have been way more enticing than the X1/PS4 one and some gamers that would have got a PS4/X1 would have switched to Wii U.  Seeing Wii U sales higher than X1 and PS4 would have made third party developers make games for Wii U even if they had to scale down or w/e.  Right now I don't see Wii U sales comparing to X1 and PS4's.

Seeing the games available by this Nov./Dec., along with seeing that Wii U is $100 cheaper than PS4 and $200 cheaper than XOne, WITH a pack-in game, a great upcoming indie game lineup, and no mandatory pay-for-online-play structure (ie free online), the console will STILL inevitably present a very attractive package to some buyers, and many will likely be swayed. Not only that, but while you're on point stating that PS4 has a healthy amount of perceived momentum heading into it's launch, XOne doesn't have much to speak of outside of die-hard MS fanboys.

Translation: The Wii U will be just fine this holiday, and will hold it's own.
