Forums - Sony - Why exactly doesn't Sony drop the price of Vita memory cards?

Not rocket science questions here. Why are the memory cards so expensive? Why doesn't Sony want the system to sell?

They did, but I think the high price is for high margins for everyone. Kinda like phones, 200 dollars to make, 700 dollars once it gets to market.

They just dropped the price.

They just did lol

I mean really drop the price. Maybe I didn't specify. Why is the reason these "vita" cards are more than 3 times the amount of the same memory SD card? THEY DO THE SAME THING

They need to make the money from somewhere. If memory cards are really cheap and ps plus keeps giving games away as rentals. People just cut down on software purchases even more.

Well not really well thought out reply but it is one scenario.

Got to make money on the vita somehow, software isn't doing the trick.

Proprietary is always more expensive than mass market. Volume reduces manufacturing costs per unit. The more you sell, the more you can manufacture, the cheaper your bottom line.

If you wanted to start selling a line of orange juice in your region, your cost per unit would be WAY higher than, say, what Tropicana deals with. That's just the way business works. The problem with Vita memory cards is that they won't go down in manufacturing costs unless they start selling a lot of them.

Its the only way they can make up the losses on the hardware.

Memory card are subsidizing the Vita prices. Vita w/o card would have to be sold at a huge loss.

Just like everyone's saying, the cards are the reason the system is so cheap. That's how they planned on making back their money, but it backfired. The cards are going to stay pretty high until they can manufacture the system without taking a big loss.
