I was just reading a thread by Kirby and it reminded me that there is a lot of "I know better than you", especially when it comes to the XB1.

What these threads prove is that no matter the idea or even the comments used to support the idea do not matter.  As long as someone mentions XB1(and to a much lesser extent the WiiU) and tries to talk about a feature or spec in a positive light, a large portion of the forum comes to try and debunk it with short statements of "not possible" or "not important".  I recognize that we have a few people who are programmers, a few that are network engineers, a few people who do whatever associated with computers in their regular life.  But what we don't have(from what I can tell anyway) are experts in pretty much anything.  Don't confuse having a job in a computer related field as being an EXPERT.  If you do that, then I am an expert(which I am not). How about the idea that you know more than the average joe in your particular job field, but not everything computer related.  So, if you are a designer of computer processors, you are not an expert on cloud computing.  If you are a software engineer,  are not an expoert on hardware design. Etc, Etc, Etc....  Does that mean that you don't have knowledge in these other areas?  No, but you are not an expert.

I quite enjoy reading the various opinions related to the tech in each of the consoles.  What I find rather boring is the "Not this again" comments that have to be added to the mix.  And then when someone doesn't take the bait, the next thing is to pick a point and say "it's not possible".  Then, the next thing is to say that even if it's possible, it won't make the XB1 as powerful as the PS4.  And then the next thing is "well, the PS4 can do that too". 

The point of my post is really simple.  If you really don't want to read another post regarding mystical power of the XB1, then don't.  If you disagree with a point related to a post, then state your opinion as just that, not fact.  I think that pretty much everyone knows that the PS4 IS MORE POWERFUL THAN THE XB1.  The real question is why can't anyone have an OPINION that is different than yours.

This is the mentality I see with many people. Because opinions can not be wrong it is hard for people to take another perspective, after all in your mind an opinion is a fact because it is true to you.

As for experts, most people sound like they know very little about specs on here and just fight for their preferred console.  Just like the PS3/X360 it seems to only be ammo for console wars as the greater public could care less about who has the most realistic ass in the game.

I don't really see posts like "well the cloud can make up the difference" that Kirby has been stating to be opinions which you can't really refute because there's no right or wrong. They're theories (more correct would be calling them hypotheses) on how something works, but how it actually works is a fact so you can be completely wrong. Arguing over different theories is what debating is all about. So when Andie-what's his face puts up a thread talking about another possible "secret sauce" for XBone this isn't an opinion, but a theory on how the XBone might work, and that can then be refuted by other people stating their reasons for why it's a poor theory.

I agree that posts simply saying "not this again" are in the wrong, but there's no reason for people to state their theories or the facts they present to try and refute someone else's theory as opinions because they really aren't. Now it would be nice if people were more humble about it and admit when something is outside of their realm as an expert, like if I'm commenting on DNA I don't speak with authority because I recognize I could be misremembering something. But this is a forum so I don't really expect that kind of candor.

That is what seems to be the most prevalent thing to happen.  When it does occur, it's too bad.  It kind of takes the fun out of discussing things.

Because computing performance isn't subjective. You can't be of the opinion that the Game Boy is more powerful than the 360. If you think it is, you're just wrong.

If one thinks that the Bone will be able to use Ray Tracing...then you don´t have to be an expert to say that that won´t be the case (for example)

Exactly.  The difference in opinion is what makes these forums so interesting.  What kind of derails these opposing ideas is when a large portion of the populace become "experts" and therefore anyone who disagrees is now some type of fool.  I has been much more cordial the last few weeks as the mods have stopped most of the personal attacks.
