Japan is no exception... but Ps3, Wii and 360 have 24mil right now and Ps3 will still go for another 3 years for another mil at least. Right now Wii U has a million... You really think it will shrink down to 14million? Someone is definitly in for a rude awakening for sure

It'll be a surprise of it does significantly better, not even Sony themselves consider Japan a tier 1 country anymore.

If it does similar numbers or worse will depend on gen 9 length and how much japanese third parties support it.

I think people who expect the PS4 to be the new PSX/ revitalise the homeconsole market in Japan are in for a huge surprise (sadly...)

id say 12.5 + its cheaper for starters, and with their strongest launch this should be good!

15-16 lifetime.  Not having the initial price issues will make this sell more overall than PS3, IMO.  Also, PS3 experience being so dependent on online elements in this current gen will drive sales of PS4.  I am a firm believer that people get addicted to the smartphone, tablet, facebook, twitter, instagram, online gaming etc...online experiences they get used to being a part of.  Once they get hooked on that the cost of a new device becomes more negligible to check out new interfaces and therefore games.  A good analogy I can think of:  Back in 2000 ish I can remember using more than 1 "dumb" phone for 3-5 years at a time with the "if it isn't broke don't fix it" logic.  But since the world of smartphones came about, I look forward to upgrading a device as soon as contracts allow due to being able to enhance my user experience...AND those don't really have to do with potential of awesome new gaming either...
