Forums - Gaming - Rayman Legends ..... great game, great flop

If people were actually aware of this game the old italian plumber would be in serious trouble. But this way, Nintendo can afford to make the same fucking game for 20 more years.

I know you've been quoted a hundred times on this thread and responded an hundred times, but I'm not sure why your anger was immediately directed towards a fellow 2D Platformer in the New Super Mario Bros. series.

Thanks to the huge resurgance of the series (and the tidal wave of sales we saw from it), other developers saw potential to create games in the genre as well. For all intents and purposes, the 2D Platformer was dead since the 5th Generation. The world moved on to 3D (and even now, 3D Platformers aren't a dime a dozen like they were in the PSX/N64 days), and the only chance you'd get of seeing a 2D Platformer was with indie or download only titles (and I'm sure you've noticed plenty of users who are still baffled that this genre exists outside of that ecosystem).

The huge success of the NSMB series isn't a detriment to other 2D platformers, rather, it allows that huge audience to continue to purchase similar titles in the genre (which is why we saw a renaissance of the 2D Platformer for the 7th gen... starting with the NSMB series).

So when you see quality platformers like Rayman Legends and Puppeteer not performing well, I really think that targeting a fellow 2D Platformer is pretty backwards. We gotta stick together!

The problem is kids aren't supporting these games.

If I was 9/10 years old I would be really interested in something like Wonderful 101 ... but today's kids seem to have no interest.

Ditto for Puppeteer, honestly it seems like it's a small niche group of hardcore adult fans that support these games.

I'm 22, and Wonderful 101 looks like one of the most interesting games I have seen in a long time.

I do believe that this was predictable.

I also believe that IF Ubisoft launched the WiiU version on its original release date, the WiiU version at least would sell better. Take a look of those exclusive WiiU games launched in March - Lego City and MH3U - they sold more than 400k each so far (physical copies). WiiU owners were desperate for new games at that time and with all the hype around Rayman, it would sell well.

Now they have three excelent games to take their attention: Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Splinter Cell Blacklist, and many are saving money for the great exclusives of the holiday

PS3 and Xbox 360 players are also with their hands full of great games right now, from Diablo to Blacklist to GTAV and more to come, it was clear as water that Rayman would be ignored by most buyers.

What a dumb move, Ubisoft. The game is great, but delaying the WiiU version was just dumb

I agree.  There is so many games coming out this fall... It would have done much better if it was released in February.  I don't care that it went multiplat, but delaying a finished version just to release with other ports was stupid.

It's good that it went multiplat then to give it a little boost at least, especially since Wii U can't sell 3rd party games.

Maybe you should take a look at how much it sold on each platform. WiiU version outsold any other in PAL charts first week.

Is there a point in there somewhere?

Your assertion that Wii U can't sell third party games when this version outperforms its rivals.

oh?   Because I thought I said it was good that it went multiplat to boost sales. I never did say the Wii U version had to outpeform any other version. Like or not, Wii U at this moment in time is having issues selling 3rd party games. Nobody knows this better then Ubisoft at the moment.

Nintendo fans actually probably dodged a bullet with this not being Wii U exclusive. If it had come out last Feburary and flopped, on top of Ubi Soft not being happy with Zombi U sales, they may have pulled the plug on other Wii U projects like Watch Dogs.

Now at least you're getting Watch Dogs and ACIV (for those who care).

With all the hype around the title at that time, it wouldn´t flop this hard. It would at least sell as much as ZombiU, an attach rate of about 17 %, what would be ok for a platform with only 3 million users (February). Another thing that reinforce this possibility is that February was a relatively slow month for new games in all platforms

but fact is Wii U version > others. And hey is a 3rd part game

lost wii-u exclusivity, lost the hype.

sales numbers would be 10-20x higher by simply replacing rayman with mario.

After the huge shitstorm because of the delay(50 out of 10 wii u owners wanted to buy this game at that time)
i had expected at least 100k for the Wii U version.

You are right with your ps360 arguement, but the Wii U arguement is contradicting.

Pikmin3,Wonderful 101 and Splinter Cell sold really bad.Bad-no sales of other games can't be the reason for bad sales of anotherbgame.

Another contradiction:Lego City and MH sold a lot better and you claim that at that time rayman would have sold better?????This time you claim that a game would sell better when there is a lot good selling competition???
