Forums - Gaming - Whats wrong with parents? Eleven year old child in France gets GTA 5 and freaks out

I was playing 18+ games when I was a kid so I won't be a hypocrite when I have my kids. In fact I'm more worried about people who are so shocked and moved by it or people who won't allow a 15-16 year old play a 18+ game.

We are talking about a 11 year old kid, not teenagers......

You are just jealous that a french kid can already play it and you not.

I played a lot of those kind of games when I was the same age...GTA III/Resident Evil and everything went fine =p.

GTAIII didn't have nudity, nor drug dealing.  It's not even the fact that it's M rated.  It's the reason for which it has that rating.  The only time you even went in doors in GTA III was when you werebeing briefed on a mission. GTA V is on a whole different level.  Not remotely compairable.

Yeah, GTA3 was ok, but Vice City and San Andreas was when it started crossing the threshold.

Loved it!

Not every fifteen to sixteen year old is created equal when it comes to maturity. Its more of a general grading system. Most teenagers today are dissensitized because they experienced things very young, thus the lasting satisfaction has worn off.

Exactly, you are at a clear and direct advantage by being educated about games. Most parents don't give a damn about videogames, they just either want their kids to be happy or to shut up about games like COD or GTA. Most girls I date don't really like gaming, but hopefully I like one who at least has a passing interesting (lol). I want my kids to have both parents be educated because videogames are a major hobby my life.

As long as your girlfriend understands that you like gaming and doesnt have a problem with it, thats all you need :)

My wife doesnt play many games, but she knows about the games and has a passing interest. She has no issues with me playing them (which is what I would expect of a partner)... but its amazing how many people I work with that have to play games when their partner has gone to bed, or not while Eastenders is on TV...  I find it strange that their partners won't budge in terms of letting them enjoy games... it's a crazy world we live in :)

Kind of grew up around jocks so most people take it as unassuming that I am a nerd/artist until they talk to me in person. Dont really have a hard time with the ladies. I game with the guys but the ladies I grew up around didn't really like it. I'm thinking about opening my mind to the nerdier girls Heh. I have friends in school who are female gamers and are hella cool. You can do so much when you share so many interests. Not to get thrown off from the topic, but yeah. I've had some chicks get on my case about gaming, when they wanted to go out and do something else. I go out a lot as it is, but I also value quality time with the opposite sex.

Not its not. GTA has a learning curve that of a moderate gamer. If you're an moderately experienced gamer the complete learning curve is generally about 10-15 minutes for the typcial GTA and for casuals its like 30-45.

I'm a hypocrite. I used to play GTA when I was even younger than this kid, but I didn't allow my younger brother to play til he was 13. It never affected me badly.

I played Fahrenheit back in 2005, so I was 11. I don't see a problem playing games that are not aimed at you. We all have done it (yup, I'm going to generalizate on this one), and trust me, my mother was very conservative about my videogames. But I knew my way around to play without her noticing!
