What does this have to do with anything in the article?  No where does it even mention that.

We either move past this obsession with abstract system specs, or keep living down to stereotypes about gaming as spectacle in lieu of art form.

Yes, but what you've said has absolutely nothing to do with the statement he made.

He's arguing that we need to move beyond geek orgasm/rage over specifications, otherwise gamers will never move beyond their stereotype and be taken seriously.  It's about maturity.  Not of the industry, that is doing that on its own, but gamers need to grow the fuck up and start acting like mature adults where applicable.

We can all laugh and say it's pathetic for a 30-some year old developer to rage-quit gaming, but the fact of the matter is there are just as many 30-something gamers that are just as laughable and pathetic because of how they act.

Gaming is about the enjoyment of the experience.  It's not about cliques.  It's about entertainment and enjoying that entertainment the way you want to.  As long as the experience is an enjoyable and entertaining experience, why should anyone care on what device it is enjoyed?

They aren't PR guys.

Public Relations is a branch of Marketing.  Albert Pennela and Marc Whitten aren't marketing people.  They are the project managers for their respective teams.  Al, over the entire Xbox One project, Marc over the hardware.

That said, sure.  They shouldn't get off message.  The message was before this diversion that the evidence was in the games and the experience.  Talking about specs is playing the other team's game.  Anyone who plays sports knows, you can't win if you play the other team's game.

It has everything to do with it, but I suspect you are being willfully obtuse. He argues first that there probably isn't really a 50% difference in performance, and then argues that it doesn't matter even if there is. If his point is the latter, why not just leave it at, "This obsession with specs is ridiculous"? Taken together, it is a muddled message that can easily be mistaken for defense forcing.

There are normal, mature adults who are interested in system specs, and someone who writes for a tech blog of all things should understand that. While we're at it, he should probably also understand we aren't talking about graphics or mere "spectacle" here, but also fundamental things that actually do affect the gaming experience like framerate performance and load times, and also that computing performance isn't really subjective. It's fine that he doesn't find these things to be worth discussing, but then he should probably stop discussing them (or, rather, handwaving them away as "abstract" when they are anything but) and look for another line of work.

Aparently MS have too much naive or dumby employees in key functions... don't think would be that hard to had put a better front even with the DRM, Kinect, Always on and more expensive if they had prepared more, said it in front not through twitter and showing a real plan.

But what else does the PS4 really have going for it? The $100 price is rather meaningless in the long run. The fact that most all multi plats did not run as well on the PS3 is true, so why would people assume it is going to be much different this time around? Because Sony said they were listening this time? DirectX and PC are still lead development platforms.

It also doesn't have Kinect 2.0, the new awesome controller with impulse triggers, and its getting a few features like Xbox Live. While yes, it does have a touch pad, it's not very convenient for games according to people that have played it. And oh, wow, innovation, innovation! It's going to have TWO rumble motors - so it's catching up with the Xbox 360.

Part of me thinks, just give those "Aging bipolar gamers" their last hurrah. I've met a few, and I really don't envy them or their lives. The ones I know, and have met in real life, are miserable loathsome people with negative views and generally suffer from Lachanophobia, and yes it shows. Let them chant "GDDR5" with their sporty protective head gear.  It makes them happy, let them have a few lingering mometns of happiness.

Other than speculation, and a few exclusives, what does the PS4 really have going for it in the long run? Recycled WiiMove? To be the king of the collection of dust? Oh, yes, something, something, PS4 Eye Camera, might have some voice recognition.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

It's pretty telling that you interpreted the "aging bipolar gamers" bit as a slap at Playstation fans only and not at console warriors in general. Your entire post is console warrioring to the extreme.

Just another typical generalization which is puerile at best, but hey you tried... OT: Bottom line is on paper PS4 is stronger and cheaper. Industry Vets having been making statement after statement that it is, I'd much rather listen to someone in the gaming industry than some Internet fairy. I believe games will still look very similar, PS4 won't look leagues better and its a possibility some ports might look worse on PS4. But PS4 is stronger just like PS3 was not a big deal, its just funny to see part of both fan bases getting all up and arms about it. Than seeing Microsoft talk about how the games are the only thing that matter, now they are attempting to debunk all specs when it comes to PS4 vs Xbox One its all laughable situation.
