it brings tears to my eyes knowing just how much better it is than both Oblivion and Skyrim (and pretty much most RPGs) even to this day.

When I was a young boy of about 11 years old I first bought Morrowind because of all the hype and rave reviews Oblivion recieved when it first came out. I myself didn't have a 360 yet so I was overjoyed to find out a predecessor existed on the original xbox titled Morrowind. I immediately went out and bought it with chores money. The game was quickly a winner in my eyes and pretty much the only game I played for the next year until I eventually got a 360 and also Oblivion. Now Oblivion was cool too but even as a naive young boy back then with stereotypically poor taste in everything such as music and movies but as a born gamer Morrowind still managed to be my favorite of the two. Unfortunately I had lost Morrowind about 2 or 3 years after I had bought it. As the years have drifted by and I quickly matured and grew cynical due to my shitty teenage life I had almost no good expectations of Skyrim leading up to it's launch. In fact I didn't even buy it until last november and to this day still haven't even gotten halfway through it. It's in no way a bad game but jesus i can't explain it there's nothing about it interesting enough to have me play it further. I'm not one to repurchase games but since I missed the good old days of my childhood I decided it was time to finally repurchase Morrowind and have another go at it to see if nostalgia isn't the only thing keeping this game in such high regards to me. I finally recieved it today from amazon and I put maybe a good 4 hours into it tonight and all I can say is ow have I missed this game. It is still as good as I remember it and I must say one of the greatest games of all time.

TLDR: Bethesda has lost its way and Morrowind is a GOAT.

Today is truly a good day to be alive.

I'll add a poll for hahas.

I agree that it is a better game than Oblivion and Skyrim.

That said, I still think Daggerfall remains the best Bethesda game to date.

If you get a chance, give them a shot on the PC. Consoles do not do these games justice.

Yes, Morrowind was the best of series.

That said, I think it brings tears to the eyes of many WRPG fans seeing that the inferior Elder Scrolls is the RPG franchise which was allowed to survive while Ultima, Ultima Underworld, Wizardry and Might & Magic where forced to die a long time ago.

I recently reinstalled Morrowind myself with the overhaul mod. The game hasn't lost any of it's charm.

It has a lot more imagination then the sequels, who became more mainsteam as popular.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Personally I preferred Oblivion and Skyrim but there are definite elements of Morrowind that I miss in the modern titles.

The imagination and the sheer sense of wonder you get as you come off the boat to explore beyond Seyda Neen still hasn't been matched. The quests were also some of the more impressive in the series but it was the architecture and the fact you truly felt like you were exploring an alien island, beyond anything on Earth. Expansions and DLC in Oblivion and Skyrim have tried to recapture some of that magic, but it's never quite as good as the original game.

Having said that, the improvements/modernization made in the gameplay, UI and speech mean I place Oblivion and Skyrim above Morrowind. I think its telling that a lot of the aspects/features user mods improved and introduced in Morrowind have found their way into the vanilla versions of its sequels.

Thing goes like this:

Morrowind > Fallout (all of them) >>>>>> The rest of the Elder Scroll games (excluding the ones previous to Morrowind, which I never played).

I couldnt get into it, Maybe it was because I had just finish playing alot of Diablo 2 at the time then tried to play marrowind and just wasnt feeling it.

Wizardry isn't dead.

Not literally, I know, but Wizardry: LotS on PS3 is just one of the many Japanese Wizardrys (the DS had two Wiz games in Japan), the last original, i.e. western Wizardry was made 12 years ago. M&M isn't literally dead either, people who want it can get Might & Magic X this very month, http://might-and-magic.ubi.com/mightandmagicx-legacy/en-US/home/ .

Plus: Richard Garriott currently tries to revive Ultima with his ugly Kickstarter project which looks like he wants us

to buy a 3dfx Voodoo card.

What I meant with "forced to die": The IPs were left behind by their owners which means today's efforts with these IPs are for a niche market (Wiz Japan) or just test balloons which still look like they were made in the 90s and can probably gradually evolve in the future. Bethesda, on the other hand, was the only company (besides Blizzard, EDIT: and Bioware) which continued to believe in the enormous potential of western RPG franchises and - if we like it or not - today they can laugh in Garriott's face (who was the first one to see the mainstream potential - see the failed graphics behemoth Ultima IX and Ultima Online - but stopped caring at some point).
