it brings tears to my eyes knowing just how much better it is than both Oblivion and Skyrim (and pretty much most RPGs) even to this day.
When I was a young boy of about 11 years old I first bought Morrowind because of all the hype and rave reviews Oblivion recieved when it first came out. I myself didn't have a 360 yet so I was overjoyed to find out a predecessor existed on the original xbox titled Morrowind. I immediately went out and bought it with chores money. The game was quickly a winner in my eyes and pretty much the only game I played for the next year until I eventually got a 360 and also Oblivion. Now Oblivion was cool too but even as a naive young boy back then with stereotypically poor taste in everything such as music and movies but as a born gamer Morrowind still managed to be my favorite of the two. Unfortunately I had lost Morrowind about 2 or 3 years after I had bought it. As the years have drifted by and I quickly matured and grew cynical due to my shitty teenage life I had almost no good expectations of Skyrim leading up to it's launch. In fact I didn't even buy it until last november and to this day still haven't even gotten halfway through it. It's in no way a bad game but jesus i can't explain it there's nothing about it interesting enough to have me play it further. I'm not one to repurchase games but since I missed the good old days of my childhood I decided it was time to finally repurchase Morrowind and have another go at it to see if nostalgia isn't the only thing keeping this game in such high regards to me. I finally recieved it today from amazon and I put maybe a good 4 hours into it tonight and all I can say is ow have I missed this game. It is still as good as I remember it and I must say one of the greatest games of all time.
TLDR: Bethesda has lost its way and Morrowind is a GOAT.
Today is truly a good day to be alive.
