The PS4 will be fine and from what i gather will do well compared to the last gen HD twins but will not do a Wii . The Xbox One in the other hand with that price tag is worrying

I think some overly optimistic will be in for a huge surprise,
400 bucks sounds good for the enthusiasts, but the average Joe will look at the exclusives (the real ones, not all those slightly enhanced cross gen games) and will look at his old systems again and all those games that are still coming out...

and maybe choose the WiiU T.T

I agree with orniletter. The noise from vocal fans isn´t a guarantee for success, the most notable and recent example beeing PSV and also the likely even more niche PSV TV.

Sales have been on a decline in the US not only hardware but especially in the software department. This has mostly a lot to do with the rising popularity of f2p games on PC and the rising smartphone/tablet market which likely will lead to a more fragmented market overall. I expect a good start due to fans picking up the systems, because of letting themselves getting hyped but it will be interesting to see what happens after the early adopter phase.

Concern. It'll have a good start but then slow down midway through next year. Kinda like the Wii U, but not to the same degree.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I thought even in the prime of the current generation that the following one would likely see a contraction. Of the three companies I would say Nintendo will have the hardest time repeating performance, then Microsoft and lastly Sony who could end up being only one to sell more this next generation than current (which, in fairness, was a massive contraction for them from PS2) one.

I will be concerned when all three are tracking below where we were at same point a generation ago.

I expect the PS4 and Xone to sell less than their predecessors but to generate more profit per unit sold.

concerned and excited really.

i'm tracking the gen over gen sales and even if ps/xb brands perform just the same the market contraction is massive. so does that mean that everyone is waiting for ps4/xbone or that no one cares about consoles anymore. really, i can't tell. it could go either way. i'm nervous to see the numbers in feb/march as that will be telling.

i've been tracking game announcements. really, other than ps4 has a massive number of indie titles coming the line-up is pathetic. like wiiU pathetic. there will be a ton of games at launch and then just about nothing for xbone and mostly indies (assuming any actually release) for ps4. scary shit.

I find what heppened to those consoles as a sign that the economy is still hurt and that the mass market isn't going to buy a new devices just for a "gimmick" feature.

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

nobody will buy a wii u now before the price cut. would be mega stupid.

I predict only 2 victors this 'upcomin' gen...but none will outdo the previous gen (in terms of amount of consoles sold)...i have faith the wii u will pick up and eventually be a success, but only sell around 50 million at best.
Xbone and ps4 will battle it out and one of them will sell 60-70 million this gen, the other 10-20. I also predict both xbone and ps4 will have just as bleak launches as the wii u (ie appear to start well, due to the fanatics but fizzle out after christmas..maybe do a bit better than wii u in its first year if these supposed triple a games actually arrive so soon)...I agree with those of the opinion that an optimistic and dedicated online fanbase wont necessarily translate to strong mass market appeal. It's just not the same world anymore and consumers are being force fed a lot of stuff, and there's only so much money to go around.
