Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft has Bought Xbone.com

Major Nelson has called the nickname disrespectful, but Microsoft has bought the domain anyway.

WHOIS search reveals that the domain is owned by Microsoft. Currently nothing is hosted there - it redirects to a Bing search for 'Xbone' - but presumably Microsoft has bought it to prevent anybody else from using it.

On NeoGAF earlier this week, Major Nelson called the Xbone moniker disrespectful. "I don't like it...it disrespects the teams that have put in thousands of hours (already) into the development of the product. Sure, it's cheeky but I don't care for it myself," he wrote.

Time will tell if the Xbone nickname endures for as long as CODBLOPS. Xbox One launches on November 22nd.

Weird that no one owned it before, unless hostile buy out occured without us knowing. Seems like it could have been a great opportunity for a fan website.

And how is it a disrespectful nickname? It's not like it's insulting his mum.

Hmm, pie.

Great news. Now I can call it the Xbone without being accused of trolling.

ahahaha

This matters why? Why do we care what he thinks is a respectful nickname for the new system? I don't think it's bad anyway, but whatever.

IGN paraphrased, they didn't quote.  MN said Xbone was disrespectful to the people working on the console.

"Bone" in US slang has a dual connotation.  1) to fuck something  2) get cheated out of something.

1.  I boned this chick last night behind the bar.

2.  That asshole boned me on the used car I bought from him.

It's also generally an incorrect acronym.

Xbox is one word, not two.  Therefore Xbox One is two words.  XO would be correct, or X1 would be correct, but XBOne, XbOne, or xbone would not be.  However, out of those three, XbOne is the most correct.

xbone would have never existed if the reveal of their system wasn't so disrespectful to consumers. as Adinnieken stated above me "bone" has a specific connotation of "getting fucked" which is how most every xbox fan felt after the reveal.

sorry larry but it's the truth of the matter.

edit: i wonder what he thinks about xbox 180..

Never said Xbone before today but sound fun :D

It's official then?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
