Forums - Gaming - My fellow Nintendo fans, why can't we be more like Sony fans?

Well I complain because they totally disappointed me with the Wii. I know they're capable of greatness, but almost everything since the Cube has pretty much sucked IMO.

Everything since Cube? As in GameCube? That system was a joke. The only reason I like the Gamecube is because its monumental failure caused Nintendo to create the Wii. Same reason I guess I'll eventually like the Wii U is hopefully Nintendo's next system has a similar goal.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

u know what's funny? as a fan of both(ninty questionable these days) the op is how a feel about both companies. i'm just not so entitled when it comes to ninty, cause like many i except wht ninty puts out, and needless of 3rd party, while with Sony i continue to expect more and better, and happy with the outcome 99.9% of the time.

I won't answer the thread question but I have my theories as to why MANY (not all) Sony fans seem to be always content while SOME (not many) Nintendo fans seem to be rarely content with their respective favorite company.

These theories only apply to consoles. [Handhelds don't matter in this discussion imo, because 3DS and Vita owners seem to be content with the library of their devices; we will never find out if some of them lie, so discussion is futile.]

I think it has to do with
- Nintendo not taking advantage with 3rd party console developers when - as some Nintendo fans hoped - they had the opportunity
- Nintendo not developing or help develop enough new IPs in diverse genres which may not succeed in the mass market but are embraced by (some) company fans and - more important - generate new customers who didn't care about the system before (this is a clear and still unique Sony strength and an advantage in the long run); btw: I'm not talking about IPs like Wii Sports/Fit, Brain Age, Nintendogs or Animal Crossing here - those were huge successes (developing new IPs which appeal to a huge audience is a clear and still unique Nintendo strength and a huge advantage on your bank account)
- many, if not all Sony fans (unknowingly?) accepting and never questioning a strategic change which is not even perceived as a change (maybe because if you were able and willing to perceive it you'd have to admit that Sony decided at some point to follow Microsoft on that route)
- the reassured confidence that Sony is still the only console manufacturer which gets ALL the 3rd party support that matters on consoles (there were many doubts during the early PS3 years - again, mainly thanks to Microsoft - but those are gone)
- mass media

That is a lot of thinking!!!!?!!!?!!

OT: Poor MS is ignored as usual when it  comes to Ninty fans.

I don't know. I'm not like either. I'm enthusiastic about Wii U. Mario 3D World isn't what I wanted, but it looks like a really fun game. I was admittedly, and very sadly let down by certain things about Pikmin 3 (no swarming), and that really stains my enjoyment of the game. But it's still a decent game. I just hope the Wii U doesn't wind up like the GC was for me: several entries in big franchises that I just simply did not care for. Namely, Sunshine, Double Dash and Wind Waker. Mario is already better than Sunshine to me, Mario Kart already looks a ton better than DD or the Wii game (so long as those bikes mind their shit and knock off that WHEELIE-ING), and who knows what they'll do with Zelda, but I'm gonna trust it'll hopefully be amazing.

I'm apprehensive about Smash Bros. I think it's stupid not to give it an official name, and I think the 3DS version is a waste of time and resources that all should be going to the Wii U version. I also don't like Sakruai's cryptic talk about the adventure mode, and how he doesn't want it to be like SS from Brawl, even though I personally loved that. I am one of those odd SB players who doesn't really play it against other people much, so I really enjoy the single player modes, and I loved how much single player content there was in Brawl as opposed to the first two games. I would expect and hope that this new entry would have at LEAST as much, if not more content, considering it's going to be on a BluRay sized disc.

I'm also hopeful that I will finally see new (GOOD) entries in the Star Fox and Wave Race series. Both of which I've been waiting for, for a long time now. A new Metroid would be nice, but I really only want to see them do one if they could POSSIBLY find it in themselves to just go the obvious route, and make a gorgeous 2D Zelda on the same kind of wavelength as Muramasa or Rayman Legends. A 2D, HD handdrawn, sprite-based Metroid in the style of the SNES game, would be mind blowing, and arguably my most anticipated game this gen, IF they'd do that. I don't want to play a 2D Metroid on a handheld. I want to play it in HD on a big screen. So we'll see if they ever do that......

All in all, I'm enthusiastic, and hope that I get plenty of games this gen that I really enjoy, as I did last gen. And a new (GOOD) Star Fox really would make my decade.

Nah, Metroid Prime single handedly got me away from PC gaming. Best game I've ever played along with Super Metroid. REmake, Thousand Year Door and Twilight Princess were serious highlights for me too. After GC's life ended, I was straight back to PC. I got a Wii but mostly hated it. I got a Wii U cos it seemed like Nintendo were headed in a direction that appealed to me, but so far there have been no amazing games. That said, I've just started W101 and really like it so far.

Gamecube was a joke? Granted, there were some Nintendo games on it I didn't care for, but Melee, Eternal Darkness, Wave Race, Pikmin, Metroid Prime, Chibi Robo, F-Zero, Twilight Princess? That was some damn fine gaming, thanks. And as for your little theory, Wii U will have quite a lot of good software, so long as you're not dead inside. Meanwhile, enjoy your Playstation I guess.

@"Nintendo fans: Always depressed for no good reason. Sony fans: Always excited for no good reason.
WRONG..as a sony fans we have got plenty of reasons to be happy..the fact ps4 ended up with the most and highest rated exculsive games says a lot.

don't be hatin on sony fans cause we're all cooler then yo guys lol

Gamecube was an amazing console, and i had more fun with it than the PS2, an nearly bought a Gamecube to replace my PS2, had some amazing classic games and multiplayer experience I hadn't had in a long time, Gamecube was fun, end of.

Nintendo fans deserve the most love I think because I think they put up with the most garbage. If Sony or MS tried to do some of the same things Nintendo does (slowwwwwww OS, no account system, no third party support, outdated hardware, console droughts galore, reusing art assets in their biggest franchise) they'd be abandoned in a heart beat by their "fans".

As much flak as MS took for example with the XBox 1, they very quickly changed a lot of their policies after listening to their fans ... lol, Nintendo just does whatever they feel like. For years we had to put up with 512MB of storage on the Wii and the "fridge system" of deleting/redownloading Wiiware/VC content, lol, because Nintendo didn't feel it was prudent to open up SD Card support.

It was only after years of complaints that they allowed for some actual SD Card support. Stuff like that is just one example.

thats a pretty shitty list of reasons to" leave " Nintendo

-the slow OS was nowhere near as bad as the typical internet hyperbole wants you to believe (and switching brands because of a slow OS? please)

-funny that you mention the accout system, an account system means jack shit in my books if it isn´t used to carry your purchases to the next console, I take the seperate Wii mode over "when hell freezes over" and "maybe far in the future when your Internet connection is super fast and you live in america (Gaikai won´t fucking work for the majority of people)"

-oudated hardware? ...what counts are the games, you don´t play hardware

-reusing assets `? Majoras Mask, Oracle of Seasons/ Ages were better BECAUSE Nintendo didn´t have to fuck around with creating new assets/ wasting time

-third party support and game drought are valid though (but there is only so much blame for the lack of third party support you can sling at Nintendo....when you look at the third party launch line up of the Wii / WiiU )
