Forums - Gaming - Why is it said that PS4 is primarily concerned with indies?

Aside from Naughty Dog and (maybe) Polphony Digital, Sony's first party studios can be accurately classified as about the same as your typical indie developer.

Can you explain what you mean by this? Is "indie developer" some sort of newfangled insult, or are you saying that indie and regular titles are indistinguishable?

Because "indie" is just short for "independent" and signifies that the game was made by a small, independent studio. None of Sony's first party studios are independent.

What would you market as their flagship? Anything they do with the Move or the Eye will be compared to Microsoft and Nintendo. Their big shooter is already being compared to Halo. Drive Club vs Forza. Blu-ray isn't there exclusive.

They don't have a TitanFall. The most buzzed about game in years. Many other games are multi plat. And we are not going to see the differences in how they run for a while yet. (Not that I think that will be good news for them.) Knack, which might be fun, people dismiss as a kids game.

They could show why the touchpad on the PS4 controller is essential.

Back to my first question, what would you run as the lead 'Only on the PS4' game if you were in charge of advertising?

20 million seller confirmed?

So you really think the PS4 has nothing going for itself?  It's got to have something.

Back to my first question, what would you run as the lead 'Only on the PS4' game if you were in charge of advertising?

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

TitanFall is not the most talked about game in years (in fact, The Last Of Us & GTA V are far more buzzed about).

More importantly, outside of TitanFall, I'm not seeing much you could really market for the X1, either. Kinect isn't going to make/break launch sales, Ryse/Dead Rising 3/Forza are equivalents to Knack/DriveClub/Killzone, and LIVE/PSN parity will be much closer. Thus, that leaves price, perception, and libraries. Jusging by the pre-order numbers, Sony has done a lot right.

Care to answer the questions?  Or do you think it really is hopeless?  Back to my first question, what would you run as the lead 'Only on the PS4' game if you were in charge of advertising?

Exactly. Thank you CGI.

Ot. I wouldn't count both Warframe and Blacklight Retribution as AAA/AA titles. They are developed by independent studios and are F2P. Of course we can argue what makes a game AAA, yada yada, just my opinion.

As for the question. It's just another internet, urban myth, like Vita has no games, PS3 had no games, etc.Well I think it's sort of a downplaying mean to the PS4. It's extremely smooth right now, not everyone is happy about it. So these people try to argue that those aren't "real" games, are subpar to AAA titles, etc. Of course there definitely is a shift from Sony towards indies, which maybe would be something concerning, if they would put all of their attention to indie games, but as you have shown, and should be known to anyone who would do a bit of research, is not the case.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

Because people are always thinking that only AAA games will be good for a console. That's why some people called the PS4 the "OUYAStation".

@bolded. Just no. Last of Us has had much more buzz. Also, according to whom? I could make a similar claim about Infamous: SS. If you're talking about new ips, still Watch Dogs has had insane buzz so far (easily more than TitanFall). Not an exclusive, but you didn't refer to exclusives there either.

@Italics. Isn't it available on pc and 360? How is it a system seller? It's as if Sony made GT6 a ps3/4 game. It wouldn't help hardware much at all.

Your question was answered (in fact, twice now). Since you're so adamant about this, however, I'll now ask: what does the X1 have that's exclusive and a substantial enough reason to pick it over the PS4 in November?

Actually, you only answer it once with "Daylight/Outlast."  It was a genuine question.

The other was a multi plat.

To answer your question, pretty much everything.  The Controller is a generation better, the Kinect is probably two generations better that what Sony will do with the PS4 eye (speculation).  The interaction and convenience of the current Xbox 360 is a generation ahead of it's contemporaries, and the Xbox One just sets a new basline well above that.

Ryse has my attention.  It looks to be a great game.  I could see myself spending hours thoroughly enjoying that game.  And there is only One place to play it.

There are many other games too, but they are coming out later, and would not qualify for your criteria.

Note: Last of Us and Grand Theft Auto V are not Net Gen games.  While Last of Us has gather great reviews and excellent word of mouth.  It's sales at only 3.14 million, hardly revolutionary. Even Sports Champions sold more.

Now I really don't think you're serious :D that's cool, that's cool, everyone needs to take it easy and have fun for awhile, I do it all the time as well

"The most buzzed about game in years" does not suggest next gen titles.  While TLoU sales are only that, it'll sell a lot more.  A lot of the bolded is kinda just opinion.  Meaning "a generation", what exactly does that mean?  So, why is Ryse an acceptable answer, but Killzone isn't?

There are one too many flaws in his logic, but it's also his opinion. He likes Ryse more than Infamous. That's absolutely fine and he is entitiled to that opinion. Now arguing that things he haven't even tried are a generation better than other things he hasn't tried, well, that's when I know there's no room for a fruitful discussion and I leave.

Xbox One fans want to ignore the 7 years of video games that the PS3 brought us. And that's only the PS3. And it's still going with more games to look forward to.

If anything, MS has way more to prove.
