Forums - Nintendo - If the next Nintendo handheld had dual sticks, how would their games change?

It'll help for 3rd parties more than 1st. And I hope it's a next gen GAMEBOY.

It wouldn't change very much. The problem at it's core is that only console-like games really use dual analog sticks, games like shooters or big action games. Most of these games suffer from the same problem the Vita suffers from, they are games that are far better on consoles and offered deteriorated experiences on handhelds with little advantages. There is no reason to play Resident Evil: Revelations or Metal Gear Solid 3 on the 3DS when the experience is much more comfortable and cinematic on a television.

The exception here however is Monster Hunter, which is a game that is much easier to play with friends on a handheld device and has gameplay in a bite sized structure suited for handhelds. So as of right now, only Monster Hunter would really benefit from a dual analog stick 3DS.

Given the times we are living in, I'm affraid we'll never have a gameboy.

Too many people at the marketing divisions would argue that this would alienate the female market after tryingto reach every market possible naming the consoles "We" and "We You". Also, the risk of facing a lawsuit by some femenine association (which probably will also be against videogames) for discriminating the female gamers calling the device gameBOY would be too high.

But I don't think the next handheld will be called DS either.

The Vita is not a bad looking console, it just needs better analog sticks to be portable.

lol. What does the shape of the analogs have to do with portability? The Vita ones are pretty good.

I've heard/read complains that they are a big tall, and there's also the concave/convex thing.

Personally, I've tried both handhelds and I don't have a problem with any of the analog sticks of them besides being too small. But then, the small buttons/d-pad/analogs are why I don't play handhelds.

Monster Hunter, Luigi's Mansion, Mario 3D Land, and Kid Icarus just off the top of my head could use a second analog stick. Other Nintendo franchises like Metroid Prime as well. Obviously third party franchises like Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, NBA 2K, Call of Duty could use it too.

The vita analog sticks are great. The concave/convex thing doesnt make any difference because they cant possibly escape from your thumb pressure. They are smaller than your thumb.
