Superhero comics (and movies and video games etc.) are our times' version of myths and religions. It's a way to define a certain set of characteristics, personify them and relate the issues of a complex world through easily identifiable images and stories.

To try to create some sort of cohesive nerrative based on these characters shows a complet lack of understanding of what they are, and how a comic book universe needs to be understood. As such, debating weather or not Batman can beat Superman is inane and you should make it a point to never engage in that kind of debate.
