LOL Bananaking, Atari failed for different reasons. Shitty games, overpriced jaguar, promises ala "64 bit machine" and dated controllers were one of the reasons. Also Playstation was a new contender nobody had on the list. What people always forget is that Sega and Atari didn't have the exclusive and resource power that Nintendo has.

Bushnell is a very important figure in the history of video games, so we shouldn't be so quick to dismiss his thoughts.

That being said, Nintendo will be just fine for many years to come. Comparing Atari's situation with the Jaguar and Nintendo's situation with the Wii U is, frankly, ridiculous, although the author of the article is responsible for that analogy, not Bushnell.

To the people who agree with this guy, he also included the 3DS, the currently most selling videogame system what about the PS3 and 360 then? He´s just salty because his creation went into oblivion long time ago. Proof of that is another interview with destructoid from 2011 where he called Nintendo "pretty crappy". So this guy is just a sad example of a bitter old man full of failures and regrets.

I never said we should, but we also shouldn't ignore N64 and Gamecube. I thought that he meant Nintendo was number 1 (sales) for 30 years and that is wrong.

but havent you read that thread of gaf about why 3rd parties left Nintendo.

1. limited to 5 games a year

2. needed seal of approval.

This wasn't a good thing because 4rd parties couldn't release their shovelware.

The only 2 things keeping Nintendo relevant at the moment is Japan and casuals.

By now we should know that everything Nintendo does differently is considered a bad thing according to those fanboys and a lot of biased internet-blogs. Just remember what they said about Nintendos decision to use touchscreens in 2003/2004, just to justify PSP not having a touchscreen.

Nintendo will never be irrelevant as long as they have THE biggest franchises in the gaming world.
