Almost every sentence made me cringe... I believe this might be the worst Nintendo is doomed article ever written. Means a lot when you have this to compete against...

Problem is that it is highly plausible.  Yes, you can argue against it, but it is still a valid concern.  One can argue that what is thrown at Nintendo fits also the XBOX brand and the Playstation brand.  You could end up repeating the early 1980s all over again.  It can happen, and don't just say it won't.  As further signs here of this, seriosuly look at how much they are trumpeting Indie game design.  That is low end costs, and also what thrives on the likes of Steam and also Android and iOS.

The big question is, as is raised by this article is: What is the future of standalone game platforms?  Do they have a future?

i still wonder why people keep on saying that Nintendo's doomed when time and time again they prove them wrong, sheesh.

Prior the early 1980s crash, replace Nintendo with Atari, and you can see why.  How can THE company which was in Blade Runner as being around forever fall to the wayside?

Well, as it is now the Wii U is not going gangbusters, and Nintendo's strength is battling against the likes of Android and iOS.  Kids are getting smart devices, and handheld game systems secondarily, if they do.  Lay out exactly where you see growth for Nintendo in the handheld arena.  3D didn't end up proving a must have feature, so Nintendo just have content that is out to offer as unique IP.

On the console side, Nintendo has serious problems if it has to go the route of bleeding red ink to keep up with the jones.  Cracks of losing money at launch, which Nintendo tried to battle with with the 3DS, managed to end up failing as they decided to lose money to hang on.

First step to being surprised in a negative sense is to presume a past track record is proof of future longevity.  Nintendo hasn't faced what it is facing now.  And its IPs don't have the draw they used.  Zelda is now surpassed by Elder's Scroll, for example.

They usually haven't been.  There is word that Microsoft will be selling the ONE at a profit.

What I was saying is that Nintendo had been avoiding it, and had been on sound footing.  With the 3DS, they had been forced to sell at a loss.  The WiiU is also supposed to sell at a loss to.  Selling at a loss means you MUST turn the corner, or you put yourself at risk of having to leave.  All consoles selling at a loss means a risk to see who bleeds the most red ink first, and gets bludgeoned for next gen or decides to drop out.  It is what happened to Sega.

So, what I am saying is this article in question is NOT just about Nintendo, but the industry as a whole.  One should be concerned.

"I love Nintendo. My daughter doesn't know what Nintendo is."

A person couldn't contradict themselves any more than this. If you love Nintendo, then it's inevitable that kids around your place will be glued to the TV, because they can't stop playing the games. And it's not like they would lose interest after the initial awe has passed. They play the games over and over again.

I love Atari.  Doesn't mean I have played Atari today.  It isn't a contradiction.  You can have past fondness, or love for something, and not force it on your kids.  Interest in a company is not passed on genetically either.  What I see, he is saying his daughter never had an interest in Nintendo to begin with, which can be true.

Videogame companies are NOT religions, despite the amount of fanboyism out there that makes it so, and shows religous devotion.

Nintendo isn't doomed, that's all I can say.

It's easily one of the best GIFs from the "Xbox One reveal makes Wii U look comparatively worthwhile" era.
