If the playstation VR is not too far above the $100 range, looks sexy and works as planned, I can see it selling to 20% of the playstations 4 userbase. It will be a huge hit amongst core gamers and young adults.

This gen is going to be expensive, Occulus rift for Star citizen, Sony VR headset for GT7. I would love to play a flight sim with a vr headset and be able to look around in the cockpit naturally. Although you kinda need to be able to see the keyboard for a decent sim.

If it's not too far above $100 range count me out though. Not interested in a cheap solution. It needs to have at least 1080p per eye with wide fov and headtracking build in. (or done with the ps eye is fine too as long as it works well)

It won't sell anywhere near 20%.

Move was cheaper than that. Had Wii's experience to build off of and it didn't even reach 10% of PS3s userbase.

The balance board and Kinect are the rare exceptions to an attachment selling at a high level and both did so with entirely different situations. Balance board due to Wii Fit and the fitness craze and Kinect due to its novelty and the dance craze.

VR will not hit any of those mainstream crazes and will also likely cost well above $100.

I see this as a similar reception as the 3D TV sony put out just for the PS3.

I think someone has been watching a bit too much SAO.

No chance this is gonna work. It would have to be technology that is confortable to the eyes and an impressive imersive piece of software to make it work. Still, you would probably still play with your controller right? So what is this besides a glorified screen in your face?

You never read SAO enough =p

If this comes to PS4, you will need to buy the PS4 Eye Camera for head tracking. I doubt they will ship this til 2016 or later. Price alone will make it hard to market. If M$ thinks this is even a possibility at Sony, they will just buy the tech from somebody and add it to their system too.

This is a bad move, IMO. If their other 3D viewer is any indication, this tech will be expensive. I don't see why Sony and MS don't just endorse the Oculus which has been well received and in development for quite some time.

When I saw that Sony was interested in the OR, I was extremely happy. That thing is going to have all kinds of support (from Game Designers, Hardware Designers, Technology Companies...etc). Sony will have trouble getting outside support for something that only they support. Do not get me wrong, Sony has some of the best First Party Studios around, but can they alone support this? Move. Vita. PSP. Sony cannot support all of these things themselves and unless they have massive 3rd party support for going into something like this, I think it is a mistake.

You mean you want Sony and M$ to agree on a 3rd party taking all the $$$ from an accessorie?  What you need is the makers of the Oculus to split the profit of the sales of each unit with Sony/M$.  That would be the only way both companies would agree.  That and a indefinite agreement to sell the tech on their systems.

Yes some sort of licensing agreement. That and if they both endorsed the OR, that would mean more reason for more devs to support it, which would mean more games for us to potentially enjoy with virtual reality tech.

Just about everyone that's tried Occulus Rift has been blown away by it. It's by far the most compelling thing in development right now in the industry.

Even Nintendo's Mr. Sakurai said this about Occulus Rift: “I experienced the ‘Oculus Rift’ VR goggles. You’d have to experience it for yourself to understand, so I won’t say much here, but I’m certain it’ll be a hit in the near future." And many other game creators have also been blown away by it.

Good for Sony for pursuing this. Quite frankly, I don't think everything in the industry needs to be made for children or broke college students. There's plenty of us gamers who are adults and can afford a $500 iPad or other electronic device if we want it.

If the experience is compelling enough and it works well with things like first person shooters and adventure games and racing games ... I'm in, even if its $300-$400. Move was just a Wiimote knock off and Move games have to specifically be designed for motion control which is a problem. But there's nothing stopping developers from adding VR support to many types of games but still allowing them to be playable for people who don't have the VR helmet. That's a big difference.

If only businesses would do something like this.  Unfortunately, one or both probably have analysts doing the math on how much to offer them for a one system deployment to get a competitive advantage.
