So I just got Steam and wanted to know what are ze "musthaves" so to say.

So list away plz. (I'll look into them as long as they aren't shooters)

When you say "PC games", are you referring to PC only games or are multiplats included? What kind of games are you interested in?

I am the Playstation Avenger.

I know what DOTA is, but I've never seen it heavily advertised, you know, like on TV? I go to school with videogame developers, of course I know what it is. They played it like the week it came out and then stopped.

Now I know you are joking ;(

No point in arguing with you lol.

Where is the part where I am joking? Can't a person have their own opinion?

Whatever is cheap in the next Steam sale lol

But seriously check out
Mount & Blade (Warband is probably the best bet)
Chivalry
Blizzard RTS games
The Witcher (Witcher 1 is good but long and has some slow sections that drag on so you can skip to 2 if you really want)
Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale/Fortune Summoners (since you seem to be into Japanese RPG games, both are really great and different games)
The Binding of Isaac
Dungeons of Dredmor
Minecraft
Civilization (any is good V is probably the most noob friendly)
Avernum: Escape From the Pit or alternatively Avadon (both are good entry points into Spiderweb software's RPGs)
X-COM: UFO Defence (if you liked XCOM but want something meatier and can stand some of the dated elements it's still one of the best games ever made)
Dawn of War 2
Orcs Must Die! 1 & 2
Crusader Kings 2

that should give you a good sampler of the kinds of things PC gaming has to offer, if you have any more specific requests or criteria then I can suggest more. Tell me what PC games you like/d then that will help as well.

The PC gaming catalog is so large and diverse that everyone's idea of must have games can be wildly different.

I don't think PC has any must haves anymore thanks to MS bringing the PC devs over to the console realm. Blizzard is even looking like they want in on the console action now.

You're kidding right? You might have skipped the whole kickstarter revolution. :)
The PC is getting the first publicly funded AAA game ever in the form of Star Citizen, you can't forget the kickstarted funded Planetary Annihialation, Torment, Project Eternity, Wasteland 2, Elite: Dangerous either, just amongst a few,

Although true Blizzard is bringing over Diablo 3 to consoles, StarCraft and WarCraft will probably remain PC centric as they don't lend themselves too well to console controllers. (If you ever played StarCraft on the Ninentdo 64, you will understand completely.)
And if Diablo 3 on consoles doesn't match the PC's 15+ million copies sold, then, well, companies go where the money is.

On top of that League of Legends is currently the worlds most played game (PC only) and the worlds most costliest game ever developed is StarWars: The Old Republic (PC Only).

You can't forget all the Valve games either which are *always* top notch, then include Civilization, The Settlers, Heroes of Might and magic, Titan Quest, X3 series, Company of Heroes, Arma 3, DayZ, Dota 2, Homeworld 3 (Aka. Homeworld: Shipbreakers), Rome 2 and the Total War series, Sins of a Solar Empire just from what I can name off the top of my head.
The PC isn't exactly "barren" for games, heck you have several decades large library of exclusives to even choose from. :)

Granted "must have" games is pretty much down to personal taste, for example I see no "must have" games on any of the consoles, other than Halo and Fable, but that's my personal gaming taste, others will surely differ.

Sorry to disappoint you but I haven't heard of any of those AAA games. Most AAA titles have the budget to match and not stay behind the curtain. I am just saying the companies that have crafted the PC realm to what it is today whom still command the lionshare of the history and respect have also gone multiplat tot he console realm. I have Steam, but I haven't really seen very much that is a must have, sorry. I'll look some of those games up later. Mind you, I used to be a PC gamer (75% of the time) when i was much younger until the first Xbox came out. All of my friends had Xboxes so it forced me to shift over. I eventually dropped the XBox, but because a lot of games that were on PC were there and Halo was no longer coming to the Mac it was easy to switch over. In my household I had both a Mac and a custom built PC too.

You are just a weak console pesant.. watch out for Trogdoor

KOTOR
Dragon Age
Borderlands
Star Wars: Battlefront
Warcraft III

The 360 never had a real shadowrun game .. they destroyed shadowrun on the 360 :P that's not a good thing.
the remake of the binding of isaac is ending up on ps4 (and pc).. in due time
all of the games on my list are cheaper & plays better on a PC if they are avalible on something else, most of them arn't

You're probably right about Shadowrun. Regardless, the major titles of the PC realm and melding with the console realm. As I said, Microsoft opened pandoras box and the slow replication process had been taking place since 2001. MMO's are starting to grow slowly but surely on consoles. Who knows where that genre might be in the next five to six years on consoles? RTS is still a problem, but everything else that matters should make an exodus. Since MS used those games as exclusives to bolster their ranks against Sony, Sony has now adapted and it taking from the PC realm as well. At some point its truly going to come down to the exclusives that matter. This is my only reason for not really having much of a list. You guys are better off stating the games I've missed out on (which sucks, but I am ok with it). I can admit when what I know is finite, but does it really matter when PS4/XB1/PC share the lionshare of top multiplats? No need for pride.

Hrm no shooters. You're missing out on quite a few gems there. Ho hum..

Here are some I recommend:

-The Elder Scrolls IV and V
-Fallout series
-Portal 1 and 2
-Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City
-Assassin's Creed II
-Deus Ex: Human Revolution
-Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition
-The Witcher Enhanced Edition
-The Witcher 2
-Torchlight 2
-Rayman Origins
-Sims 3
-Minecraft
-The Walking Dead (Telltale)
-Cave Story+
