Forums - Nintendo - So if Nintendo's Next Handheld is a tablet, would that be considered a social device?

I mean tablets and smartphones are considered a social device themselves, and if nitendo created one, wouldnt that put them in the sam ballpark as say google or apple? Of Course it would have buttons  on the sides, but so do a lot of tablets. Would it be a social device?

BTW, you could totally see why nintendo would do it, the 2DS honestly looks like the first step to a tablet. Its perfect for kids, a cheap price, and it looks fun. And having one screen actually makes it Cheaper for nintendo. If nintendo deccided to make a tablet(which they could easily do), Now they could be able to finally have multitouch for a nice cheap price. Plus it would keep not only gamers and parents happy, but analysts too. It would be great for everybody.

It's never going to happen. Nintendo are fully aware that tablets and smartphones are shite for gaming due to not having buttons and analog sticks.

If it has buttons and sticks it isn't a tablet mate.

Sure it is. That's like saying Microsoft Surface isn't a tablet because the cover has a physical keyboard on it. Most people even call the Wii U controller the tablet pad.

To the OP's point, if the "Nintendo Tablet" has social apps and a form factor reminscent of tablets, sure. I'd like to see them allow for easy porting of Android or iOS apps if they go this route.

If Nintendo released a cheap mini gaming tablet for something around $200, I would want it.

No. You think the fact that tablets have a big touch screen on them is what makes them a social device?

There are a few things that go into making something a social device, but I'll keep it simple. If it doesn't have 3G or an equivalent feature -- something that provides the user with access to the internet at all times -- it's not a social device.

So unless Nintendo's next handheld is capable of holding a constant internet connection, it's not a social device, no matter how big or touchable its screen is.

My iPad doesn't have 3G. Unless you're saying WiFi is an "equivalent feature" but WiFi in any future Nintendo portable is pretty much assured.

Congratulations, there's nothing social about your device.
