I'm actually surprised its as low as it is. Yes, 3D World doesn't look like the revolution that some other Super Mario games were. But it IS a 3D Mario, and it's in a distant fourth on a Nintendo platform. Depending on how you count Smash Bros, it's not even the second highest Mario game for the Wii U!

Ah yes, the good old days of Skyward Sword topping the charts for about 13 months straight. That era ended just a couple of months before I took over this feature.

I think that's a tribute to how unimpressed people were by it compared to previous 3D Mario games. I wasn't around at the time, but if this thread had been made in mid 2007, I bet anything Mario Galaxy would be in the top 2 with Smash Bros, maybe even #1.

There are only 2 games that are new IPs, "WatchDogs" and "Beyond: Two Souls" (no, "X" and "Mario 3D World" don't count). I was hoping for more new IPs given that we are starting a new gen :-/.
