Forums - Gaming Discussion - Press Start: PS4's Dualshock 4 vs. Xbox One controller

????? I never once said the x1 controller never improved over the 360's................... That  was not even being discussed.

xD that was a complete failure on both our parts. You quoted ethomaz who was trying to say that the X1 controller is worse than the 360 controller (when he said "first impressions say otherwise" he was talking about 360 vs X1 controller).

And I was going off of that

@ethomaz: you'll have to excuse me but I take most everything that's said on neogaf regarding the X1 with a giant bucket of salt. Heck we even have a guy here that got to mess around with the X1 controller and as far as I could tell, he thought it was glorious. I guess my post of death above is more directed at you than iamdeath :P

I guess I'll let you off with it this time, seeming you are a mod and all :P.

What the hell is rumble triggers...I've asked people already and I don't feel like looking them up lol. Is it just triggers that vibrate?? I don't see why people are making such a big deal out of them =/

I told you in the other thread lol.

Basically from what I hear it's similar to the haptic feedback that is on smartphones (of varying degrees). I think that there's a video in one of the links I posted that went in depth about how the feedback in the triggers (and now I found out that there's feedback in the thumbsticks as well) was like.

All we are arguing is the Ds4 is miles better at at least as good, and many people are saying even surpassed MS's controller. Not one person said MS controller was bad. At least I certainly wasn't.

That's what ethomaz was saying, which is what you quoted. He was saying the impressions for Xbox One controller were bad and you were agreeing.

Although it appears you may have been referencing the X1 vs DS4 and not X1 itself. :p

I admit, the DS4 controller is a lot bigger. That was my bad. Bad picture on my part.

How do we know which pictures are bad though?

Huh? The only one I posted that had both Xbox One and PS4 controller in it, obviously.

Why are you confused?

My point is "how do you know the other picture isn't slightly crooked or something".

A 2 dimensional image is hardly the best way to determine the size of a 3 dimensional object.  A slight camera angle could cause the PS4 controller to be slightly larger, for all we know they could be roughly the same size.

That's what i was thinking.  It seems like the picture is closer to the PS4 controller.

Regardless, the controller has to be big to include the touchpad, look how much real estate it takes up.  The part of the controller that you will actually use is the same or similar size to the new XBOne controller.

Come on ethomaz, we all know that's not true. Almost everyone who's gotten hands on time with the X1 controller says it's better than the 360 controller. Also, as nightsurge has said, the X1 controller really isn't much smaller than the 360 controller.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/22/xbox-one-controller-hands-on

"Overall, I was surprised how much I liked the Xbox One's controller. While the changes from the Xbox 360 controller are significant, it clearly respects the legacy and leaves its strongest qualities intact."

Real gamers impressions from GamesCom... most Xbox 360 users... the consensus is that what I said.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=657813 (you need to go deap in the thread)

There are a lot of posts... most issues common issues are: snaller and loose sticks (like DS3) and LB and RB in wrong place.

I checked the whole thread. And to be honest, it seemed pretty good impressions from everyone. Some mentioned the lb/rb being different, same as the sticks.

It's merely something they have to get used to, when it is different from what they are used to. It's not a negative, just a transition. The controller itself is much more improved and the changes they are talking about (lb/rb and sticks) are actual performance improvements that they will notice more after playing with the controllers for longer than 10 minutes... :p

Since they were predominantly 360 controller users, they had no predispositions regarding the DS4. Though I saw plenty of refernces to the triggers still being crap on the DS4 and that the heavier weight was a bad thing.

This seems to be the common trend. I've been listing to a lot of pod cast, like joysitq and ign and everyone was talking about how they prefer the ps4 controller over the new xbox one. It seems ps4 is going to bring a lot of people back.

What I get from the impressions is that PS4 refined a lot of ideias found in the 360's controller... and the Xbone's controller seems like to try to change what made 360's controller good.

Not saying your wrong, but most people I've seen talk about the Xbox One controller prefer the the old xbox controller (and the ds4).  Although this is likely because there is an adjustment period whenever things change, eventually everyone will like the new controller as much as the old one (I think).  I really look forward to getting to use new xbox contoller and the ds4.

http://kotaku.com/the-xbox-one-controller-side-by-side-with-the-ps4-contr-581449946  (This is actually an IGN article)

The Xbox One controller builds upon the Xbox 360's legacy as a proficient shooter gamepad. All of the ergonomic features you love are there with significant refinements and increased precision. With Sony making FPS-centric improvements for the DualShock 4, it'll be interesting to see which controller reigns supreme when the systems ship later this year.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is as useful a phrase as it is folksy, and though theXbox One is a complete reinvention compared to the Xbox 360, the controller is in many ways little changed. It's a bit more rounded, a bit softer to the touch and features redesigned trigger buttons with their own discrete rumble controllers. The d-pad is revised, and the analog sticks have more texture. Also, the battery backpack is no longer quite as pronounced. In other words, we think it's going to be great. Check out our gallery of comparison shots in the gallery below!

This whole article is an in-depth comarison where it's obvious they think the X1 controller is better.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/technology-video/10244469/Xbox-One-controller-hands-on-review.html

Rob Crossley of ComputerandVideoGames.com compared the Xbox One controller to that of its predecessor. How does it measure up?

He thinks there has been a marked improvement for the new version of the Microsoft console, with added definition and comfort.

http://www.vg247.com/2013/06/12/dualshock-4-and-xbox-one-pad-first-impressions/

All-round, though, the One pad looks successful. It’s always going to be tough to come out with something meaningful in response to something as good as the 360 controller (d-pad aside), but Microsoft appears to have done a decent job. It feels very comfortable in the hand, and the rumbling triggers are a lovely touch. Both the DualShock 4 and Xbox One pad are generally excellent, barring a few quibbles.

There’s nothing wrong enough with either of them to worry about. So don’t.

But the Xbox One controller might be in another league in terms of comfort. It's smaller than the Xbox 360's game pad, sitting in the hands the way that Ubisoft's limited edition Ghost Recon Future Soldier pad did, albeit without the mesh grips (more on that in a bit). But the shape is still incredibly pleasing.

We'll go into more detail on the new Xbox One controller elsewhere, but the short version is that it's a smart evolution of the 360's existing pad. The design and feel is broadly similar, and the main, most tangible differences are a new cross-shaped D-pad, a slight raised ring around the new analogue sticks, which helps keep your thumb in the right place, and a slightly lighter, more responsive feel. Button layouts are the same, though positions and shapes of the bumpers and triggers seem to have been adjusted slightly for added comfort and speed.

Xbox One. Hang on to those AA batteries. Players will still need them to power the controller. On the bright side, the controller loses the bulky container.

It feels lighter and thinner than the 360 controller overall, yet maintains the same design and feel that players know.

And last but certainly not least!

EVERY JOURNALIST WE SPOKE TO AT MICROSOFT'S REDMOND EVENT AGREED; THE XBOX ONE CONTROLLER FEELS LIKE A BIG IMPROVEMENT OVER ITS 360 PREDECESSOR.
