Whats wrong with the 3DS? I thought it was doing fine.

Not in western markets. That's why 2DS is focused on those market places.

Right price is useless without the right software.

By now, all of us VGCharters have seen these things:

And we all eventually came to the conclusion that Nintendo was actually serious about this so-called "2DS." But, what I'm wondering is; is the "2DS" Nintendo's secret call for help? Are they trying to tell us something with this "new" announcement?

Is Nintendo running out of ideas? Are they coming to the fate of Pixar? Was the 3D of the 3DS actually a completely useless feature that was only implemented to make the 3DS seem like something new? Does Nintendo as a whole get collectively high before they come up with any idea? Do they need our help to turn them back to the rolling hills, triple rainbows, and unicorns that was the land of Wii and DS?

So many questions, yet so little time... to write them down.

Overall, Nintendo, we ask you why?

I really don't like the idea. 3d is like one of the main reasons i got a 3ds. Taking pictures in 3d rules, especially pictures of my gfs boobs

What happened? Suddenly 3DS looks more interesting to me.

3D was a failure to begin with. with the 2DS the practically admit that. also the show one more time that the prefere to play it safe with countless cheap interations of already existing hardware and games instead of trying to create something new software wise. nintendos motto pretty much is: "get them as young as posssible because the younger they are the easier to entertain they are."

So you're saying they're smarter than the competition.

I can live with that.

maybe, but i honestly don't care about how much money they have or make. i only care about what they are using it for. and if it's really true that their pockets are full of cash it's even more pathetic when you look at the quality of their recent products.

What's wrong with the quality of their recent products?

well how about wii-u or their constant more and more uncreative recycling of mario games in general? letting technical aspects aside for once, how could anybody during wii-u development not see that the dual screen layout of the ds will never work with a home console? why? because unlike a handheld you cannot watch both screens (tv and tablet controller) at the same time. as for mario games: new super mario u and new super luigi u. do i have to say more? so tell me: do you really think they put a lot of thought and effort into creating this stuff?

Nintendo does a horrendous job of naming their systems

HELP ME HERE!

did I just find one of those ignorant americans people have been talking about in this thread?

Maybe, I am American, but I disagree with the first part.  I honestly think that with the DS iterations and the Wii line they have totally confused the average consumer.

I sense a self-absorbed Brit. Totally agreed with JOKA, Wii U and the DS iterations have confusing names. 2DS sounds like a precursor to the 3DS to the casual gamer, and true gamers obviously won't buy it because of the fact that it's a gimped 3DS. Wii U sounds like an add-on to the Wii rather than a new console, and I think the confusion this has caused casuals is part of the reason why the Wii is still outselling it on a week-to-week basis.

Human contact, the final frontier.

Whatever it is, it sold me! I think I'll get it for my 4 yr old nephew. It should also be harder for him to destroy.

theres nothing wrong, this is a smart move, 3DS will still be selling and 2ds is a great option for parents to buy there kids on a low budget, and for people wanting to experience nintendo exclusives for cheap $130 vs $199 vita/3ds xl and WiiU $300 PS4 $400 and X1 $500

But THREE different SKUs? I mean, really? That's just ridiculous.
