Forums - Nintendo - How the heck are we supposed to reach the 2DS touchscreen?

It's for kids, who cares? Kids suck. They won't know any better so they won't know to be unhappy about it. The key with children is to keep them slightly unhappy so that their expectations are extremely low. Just hand it to them along with Pokemon and tell them they have to find every single Pokemon or they can't go to college.

You have the makings of a great parent, pokoko.

It looks like it will be awful for games that use the touch screen a lot (Kid Icarus, World Ends With You, etc), but great for games that primarily use the bottom screen as a map or something (like Monster Hunter).

Playing Monster Hunter on this sounds like a bad idea. Primarily because the camera is either controlled by a second circle pad via CPP or a d-pad mapped onto the touchscreen. This is clearly meant as a Pokemon machine.

Ooo yeah, I forgot about the D-pad. So it's good for Pokémon, Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros, Virtual Console games, etc.

Yeah, basically anything that wouldn't require back and forth between physical controls and touchscreen usage... that would probably be too complex for a 7 year old anyways. :P

I would say start with a conversation. Talk to the 2DS touchscreen, not at it. Hopefully you can get through this way.

After multiple tries if you still can't reach the 2DS touchscreen, then perhaps counseling is in your future.

Lol this is targeted for kids according to Nintendo right? Well they have much smaller hands, I don't know how they expect them to reach the touch screen without them having to place that thing on the floor or something.

easy use one hand to hold the 2DS and the other to touch the screen. Its not that complicated. People do it all the time with handhelds :p

You know its bad when people have to forgo common sense in orde to hate on something. Yes its completely impossible to hold it with one hand while using the touch screen with the other...Cause every touch screen game is made for people with 3 hands.

If you really think its fine and we are just looking to hate, why did Nintendo move start and select?

Because those are buttons you might want to access while using regular face buttons....unlike the touchscreen.

Firstly, this thing is clearly designed to be a rugged handheld for little kids, hinge removed as a major point weakness for a system that might get left on the floor, kicked etc.

If the controls had been placed lower, the touch screen may have been reachable, but the shoulder buttons would not.

Furthermore if you think little kids with little hands can easily reach the touch screen on the current 3DS while keeping their hands on the controls, then you haven't watched too many young kids on the 3DS. In my experience, when they use the touch screen, they take their right hand off so they can reach the whole screen.

Bottom line, this system it's not designed for people on game forums.

But games are designed thinking it is simple to just move a thumb and tap a virtual button. That's now going to require the whole hand to be removed. That's annoying and a design flaw.

you don't...if you already have an 3ds or a ds why on earth would you get the same thing...with even worse design??

nintendo needs to come up with new and refreshing systems instead of the same old thing.

the same old thing that will make them alot of money right? TRY AGAIN

Damn, the average shopper must be more stupid than I initially imagined to buy this...brick.

Yes, cuz the World Revolves around you, Cuz you wont buy one, people that do are just more stupid than you imagine. Great Comeback, Smooth Words lmfao. 3DS went from >>>Vita to >>>>>>>>>>Vita :0

This has nothing to do with the Vita. Not a single bit. I didn't even imply it. I have no problem with the 3DS. Hell, my sis, best friend  and I are planning to buy some 3DSs for when Pokemon X/Y comes out so we can battle each other, etc.

I have no quarrel with the 3DS but this device is just ugly, unimaginative, and it looks like Nintendo's attempt to cashing on kids who don't know any better and parents looking to keep their autistic children busy. Plus, the 2DS XL will be out the week after its release, guaranteed.

You are trying waaaaay to hard to defend Nintendo from anybody with a negative view on their brand, so grab a hold of your tits and calm them down, please.

yea make up a story stating you'll get a 3DS lmao, im defending the fact you called people stupid cuz of something u dont like. Think b4 you post, THE WORLD DOESNT REVOLVE AROUND YOU! My arguement stands

Make up stories? ok. I've already posted in Pokemon threads showing my history with the series. I've played every single generation, starting with pokemon yellow on my cousin's GB. I owned a GBA SP with emerald and a DS with Diamond. me and my sis finished black and white using emulators but we could never fight each other so we opted to start saving for 3DSs which we hope near october. She is purchasing a black 3DS XL with the game separate while I will buy the pokemon bundle, with the red 3DS and Pokemon X. My best catch was on a shiny ponyta in Diamond, which i changed for a cherubi for some stupid reason. I also plan to purchase KH 3D as I am a huge fan of the franchise, having beaten every single KH game except for recoded and 3D. I also plan to purchase DKCR and fire emblem.

The average shopper, to me, is the uneducated shopper, the kind that has enough surplus of money to buy whatever they want (or whatever their kids demand) because it would not make a dent in their finances, while the purchase becomes irrelevant soon after because they dislike it, etc. Gamers are usually known to be smart shoppers because even though we can be biased, we tend to be informed of the in and outs of a console/handheld as well as the features in games, etc. Yes, that's a complement to all us.

"Trick shot? The trick is NOT to get shot." - Lucian

It won't be a problem because either: 1) Games use the touchscreen for practically everything, meaning that you won't use the buttons often, or 2) Games barely use the touch screen aside of maybe very simple commands.

In most games that use the touch screen heavily, like Virtue's Last Reward for example, you can still use the buttons, it's slower because you have to use the slider to move the cursor manually (it's a point and click game basically), but it gets the job done. Games that use both extensively could be uncomfortable though, but aside of Kid Icarus I can't think of a game that uses both equally.

Nintendo and PC gamer

I almost never use my thumbs but the stylus and for that I have to hold the system with one hand, so I don't see any problem doing the same here.

I may be the only one here but I really like the design, it looks more comfortable to hold. With the original 3DS my hands hurt after playing it for a while. If this one solves that problem I may be getting one.

In fact, if it had an account system I for sure would be getting one, but until then I'm very curious to at least test it.
