Forums - Gaming - What Is The Future For Platinum Games?

I'd have to think Konami would take them back for Metal Gear Rising 2.

Unless Bayonetta 2 does really well, I think their relationship with Nintendo is pretty much done. Seems like a really bad fit for both sides.

My guess is they'll become part of Konami in the future perhaps, maybe rebooting some other Konami IP like Contra.

First the Wonderful 101 numbers are from Japan... Japan console sales always sucks and the Wii U is no different for reasons there are dozens of threads discussing.

Next, they no doubt have gotten decent fund saving Metal Gear Rising from being a trashy game that hurt the Metal Gear brand and they are getting paid for their Nintendo work as well. While bigger sales would no doubt have helped increase their profile, the company isn't likely to just go under due to anything like this.

Worst case scenario some key members might 'fall on their swords' and leave the company to form something else but fans and people in general should probably just chill.

1. W101 is doing really bad. unless the West love it and buy a lot of copies it will be a finacial failure. you cant blame poor Jp sales on them not buying home consoles because WiiU is doing really well their compared to EU and NA's expectations.

2. This was a huge + for them, so much so that Kojima himself has said he is open to them making a sequel. Hopefully next year at TGS we see it announced for PS4 and XBO.

3. If anyone leaves by their own will because of W101 sales i will be sad. they are clearly a very talented team that unfourtunately need a good publisher behind them.

Wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo buys them out. It's best for everyone.

Surely that won't happen after they lose millions on Wonderful 101.

Hopefully a digital port of Bayonetta 1 on WiiU.

Yes, by god. Really don't see why that hasn't happened yet.

They just need to find publishers willing to sign their projects. If they have to do this by working on other people's IPs (like Rising) so be it. If Suda can survive, Platinum can.

Grasshopper manufacture survives through low-budgets. Most of Platinum's games are not low-budget (although some of their lower performers like MadWorld or Anarchy Reigns couldn't have cost that much).

I find the claim that Wonderful 101 cost 1.5x Bayonetta to be dubious, myself.

You said exactly was I was going to say.

Platinum used to be Clover studio for Capcom but Capcom dissolved them for this very reason - great games no one buys (Okami).

I think the best solution for Platinum if for Nintendo to buy them and put them to work on Nintendo IPs which, by the nature of the strength of Nintendo's IPs and Platinum's exceptional quality will be bound to be profitable for both. Third person shooter Metroid perhaps?

I don't think Suda's games are low budget enough to survive some of his bombas, there must be losses somewhere.

But anyway, if Platinum get assigned work by publishers it will be the publisher's final decision on the budget, and their loss if they go over. Unless otherwise stated, Platinum gets a flat fee for their work from publishers, their pay isn't dependent on units sold.
