What is the deal with trophies? Do yu get anything?

I like getting unlockables for hard work. Like old games.

Some older games would give you cheats after achieving something, or at least artwork and soundtracks. The last game i saw that did this was Metroid Prime 3.

Kid Icarus: Uprising. Sakurai always does cheevies right.

yep, same with me. i still love trophys, but i also hate them at the same time

also every game that iv ever got a plat for, iv never played said game again. i get this strange notion that its somehow pointless (i know stupid right? theres nothing i can do about it :(

Yeah I know that feeling lol after I plated FF13-2 I wanted to get the DLC but I kinda thought meh I already plated the game no point going back.

I hate trophies and achievements, they actually detract from the experience for me.

First off, it's distracting. Completely pulls me out of the game when an ugly out-of-place notification pops up in the middle of a game.

Plus it's patronizing. It treats me like I'm a three-year old getting pats on the head every time I do something right. "Oh, you beat that boss you HAD TO BEAT ANYWAY? ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED!" "Oh, you killed x number of generic goons? YOU GOT A TROPHY!" I don't need to be spoonfed, thanks.

They're one of the most worthless gimmicks to come out of the 7th gen.

I hope Nintendo never makes an equivalent, or if they do, that they can be turned off.

Or you know.....you can just ignore them like logging off of a forum (I still find it hard to believe that people ask for permabans/bans instead of logging off).

Its nothing more than a harmless feature - the people who get obsessed with collecting trophies as a hobby are the same people who get obsessed with MMOs and facebook, etc (No offense to the OP).

If you think getting an achievement is patronizing, I cant imagine how you react to when a game says you won, game over, etc. lol

Anyways, I hope Nintendo does have their own achievement system :P

They're harmless once they're turned off, at least. ;)

It's not the same as being told I won or game over, it's like a guy sitting next to me when I'm driving a car, patting me on the head, "you indicated before a corner, achievement unlocked." "You drove for a minute without breaking the speed limit, achievement unlocked."I don't need constant reassurance that I'm doing it right, thanks.

So seeing a notification that only stays there for 2-3 seconds is harmful? Ok.

It takes me out of the game, so in terms of the experience, it is a bit, yeah.

In Heavy Rain the trophies only pop-up during loading screens. David Cage agrees with you.

I just find it really hard to play games that dont have them :S even though I stopped whoring them over a year ago now and seldom look at my trophy list I just get this weird feeling that if it doesnt have tophies its not really worth playing.

For example I wanna go back and play some classics but they thought of them not having trophies puts me off, I thought if I ignored them that feeling would go away but it hasnt....

I enjoyed gaming alot more when they weren't around -.-

When games start to be come like work they lose a bit of fun, mostly.

The only thing to do is igore them or I know some peole start a new gamertag just to get away from the compeition of it.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Interesting, I guess an experience is different for everyone - yours being a first I heard of lol.

At least they let you turn off notifications on both PS3 and Xbox360 I do know that though.

Steam is a bit more complicated as you have to turn off the steam community settings which in turn turns off all tracking such as hours, steam chat, etc.

But the Steam achievement notifications are hardly noticeable compared to xbox and PS I doubt anyone would be annoyed by them.

Once upon a time we had unlockables... Now we just have achievements. I don't care about achievements one way or another, but I feel that many developers have used it as a way to avoid creating real incentives to complete tasks.

^ This. I do care about achievements as long as they give me useful stuff in-game. I see no point in them otherwise.

Nintendo and PC gamer

Kinda in the same boat lol..  when you get used to going for trophies it's hard to play a game that doesn't have them... I have saints row 2 which I would love to play through again on ps3 with a friend in co op mode... but there is no trophies :p

It's also stopped me from buying ps2 / ps1 classics at times :(

I used to be like that, then I stopped giving a shit and just played games that I WANTED to play.
