Forums - Nintendo - What doesn't North America get about the 3DS?

What the hell are you talking about? the system is selling great globally and it's usually at the top of the list in north america,so I don't get what your complaining about.

Its selling worse than DS so obviously that means its in trouble

a) Japanese gamers mostly play handheld games over console games. This is why PS3/Wii/360 combined in Japan make only about half the sales Wii or 360 alone make in North America.

b) Nintendo has been ignoring North America. Japan has a dozen colours of 3DS XL, until recently you could only buy a blue or red two tone console. I'm getting a black one, but I'd still largely prefer solid white.

Plus a lot of non Nintendo games are just taking their sweet time localizing. No confirmed Dragon Quest VII or Monster Hunter 4 localization, Bravery Default will be a year and a half old by the time it gets here, and a lot of games are consistantly releasing 9 months or so earlier in Japan then NA. 9 months is a bit much.

Seems weird u would single out one week without looking at yearly or lifetime sales. NA and Europe 2013 sales and lifetime sales are basically the same. Also this week was a holiday in japan so sales are higher than usual.

OH? The 3DS has only been out sold by the 360 in the US once this year? Sorry, I guess I am wrong. Also the US certainly has the highest amount of units sold since we have over 300 million people living in America alone. Not including Canada and whatever else is part of North America.

Thanks for setting me straight.

Im just saying choosing a holiday week in japan and not mentioning Europe since sales are the same doesnt really make sense.

A) Very low third-party support compared to DS

B) Higher price point than DS

C) Handheld market is weaker now than it was between 2004-2010

D) Wait until 2DS and Pokemon X/Y release on Oct 12 and maybe we'll be having a conversation about how great the 3DS is doing by then

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

parents are holding it to buy on the holiday... when the holiday start rolling... 3ds will start rolling....

Tablets/smartphone? I mean what else could it be?. Let wait for the 2DS numbers.

It's smartphones and tablets. If those existed outside North America, I'd imagine those figures would be lower too.

Japan is the anomaly here, not NA. The handheld market has shrunk in every territory apart from Japan where instead the console market has shrunk.

The handheld market has shrunk significantly in Japan as well.

True! Its handheld market remains the biggest though.
