Sony wins hands down? Delirious. Seriously, simply, and deliciously delirious.

... you do know that you're proving the opposite point true, don't you?  That Sony can sell millions of consoles without depending on scoring a massive hit or starting a casual craze?  Somehow I think you missed something.  Regardless, thanks for helping the argument for Sony.

the bolded words say everything about your bias. either way, sony can't sell any console without other companies while nintendo can make it's console a success almost by itself.

Nintendo would sell the most.

Quality would be subjective and not worth bickering over.

I guess Sony because they have already proven that they can produce many new ip's with a certain quality.

Nintendo teams are good and maybe in overall ratings 3-5% better but they have almost only experience in doing always the same.Since Pikmin there was no new core ip and many of them may fail when they try to produce something new.

MS-most Teams are new and therefore it is impossible to say wether they are good or not .
The new halo team did a good job,the new gears team failed and Rare hasn't produced something new that's good since kameo.As MS success is more based on buying(they bought halo and bungie,just like gears and rare or (time exclusive) mass effect.
I think they'd be no.3 in this race as they never had made something on their own that had an great impact on console gaming.

It comes to personal preference - the reason I prefer Sony is their love for backing up strange and not-so-mainstream ideas. So, while I think Nintendo's IP would probably sell the most (per IP), "the best" new IPs would come from Sony (personal preference of course).

Naturally, 3rd parties would kick their collective asses ;)

Nintendo and Sony proved both, that they can create high quality new IPs. As people usually say, that Nintendo only has Mario, here the new IPs from Nintendo in the last years:
* Dillon's Rolling Western
* Freakyform Deluxe
* Pullblox/Fallblox (Pushmo and Crashmo in the US)
* Xenoblade Chronicles
* Wonderful 101
* Nintendoland
Sony also has a good track-reord:
* The Last of Us
* Beyond
* PSASBR
* Heavy Rain

So basically I say Sony and Nintendo can do new IPs. Microsoft probably can do, but on a smaller scale (so far). To be fair, it takes time to build the resources. Sony also needed a long time to build the first party devs they have now. So we can expect Microsoft to pick up on that later.

So your first question is, who would have the best new IPs. That's difficult, because the best is very subjective. Sony-fans prefer Sony-games, because otherwise they wouldn't be Sony-fans in the first place. Same with Nintendo and Microsoft. So the answer on this question depends really on the person who answers.

The second question is, who would sell more. Well, that is easier. Nintendo already proved to have the best selling games, regardless if they are old or new IPs. So Nintendo will probably win in this category.

Are we really comparing niche, small Wiiware/eShop titles to games that are GOTY contenders?

Sony, no doubt. Followed by Nintendo.

but you have a link avatar :O

Zelda is not a new IP :V

i guess you are new on here so ill explain, on here you are only allowed to love and like one console and its exclusives and everything you say must support them even if it is false!

Hands down Sony.

Nintendo already proved with Wii and DS that they can create several new IPs which can be 10+ or even 20+ million sellers.

Only if the casuals bite though. They haven't been able to do that with the WiiU and 3DS.

Actually Nintendo did it several times in their history, or do you think Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Smash Bros and (the in-sourced?) Pokemon weren't new IPs at some time point? Nintendo is in fact the only company in the world which already proved what the thread title asks for: They are able to develop or publish (see also Tetris) the best exclusive IPs (in terms of worldwide popularity and accessibility) which consequently sell by far the most.

As much as Sony have had the best new IP lately, Nintendo hands down for me. If they weren't busy keeping fans satisfied with existing franchises, all that energy would be poured into new stuff!
