Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft Investor Wants To Fire Ballmer And Sell Xbox Division

with a 1% stake in the company, is seeking to achieve some major changes at Microsoft.

Got that from Neogaf.

First shareholders wanted to split up Sony, now they want to sell the Xbox division? I think we can all agree that shareholder are complete idiots.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

That's pretty funny, but highly unlikely to see the Xbox division sold to anyone. That's never going to happen.

It may, MS is in a tough spot.  While they dominate the shrinking world of PC's and are a big player in the also shrinking console market, they are a non factor in emerging technologies.  XBox division has had the positive impact of delivering games to the windows destop, making it the defacto home standard.  The xbox division has not however generated much money for shareholders.  Shareholders with voting stock want return on investment and there is not any certainty that that will happen with xbox division (about a 3 billion dollar loss over the last ten years if reports are to be believed). Shareholders are not gamers.

Nah it's totally different.  Loeb wants to spin of the Entertainment division so it is it's own seperate company partially owned by Sony, so that it can get rid of the albatross that is everything not Entertainment, and so the rest of the company doesn't lean on entertainment and is forced to imrpove their own buisness with an influx of Cash.

Value Act wants Microsoft to sell the Xbox Division beause it has a lot of products that are... meh and haven't paid off yet.   Though that's not really what they want.  Unlike Loeb who owns 7%... Value Act only owns 1%.

In reality they are just trying to bully their way into a seat at the big table by making waves.  Essentially by threating to shit on the Xbox division and cause a huge investor stir up right before the One releases.

If Loeb is suggesting to sell your house to help turn around your mom and pop buisness,  Value Act is threating to out your affair right before the opening of a new important store, unless you make him a manager.

Yea that's right, they are gamblers. Investors/Shareholders are important to the economy because if nobody financed risky projects many many cool/revolutionary ideas wouldn't have been realized, yet investing always is gambling, even if you put your money into the "stable"/"safe" companies.

Eh, it depends on how much faith you have in Sony outside of Entertainment.  If you believe in Sony as a Hardware producer and their other non entertainment buisnesses.   The Spinoff is an AMAZING idea.   Companies do spinoffs so often because when the company knows what it's doing, both the company and the spinoff end up making more money then before, are worth more then before, and the parent company always seems better off.

If you think there is no chance they can innovate themselves out of their troubles and that Samsung has their number, then the Spinoff is hugely stupid since it's money going towards nothing.  A good example where it didn't work?  Netflix.  They wanted Streaming and DVD's to be different companies.   Nobody thought the DVD company could stand on it's own however so both companies took a hit.  So they had to stick together.

What's hilarious is generally everybody seems to take it the exact opposite way.  Those with faith in sony are agaisnt the spinoff even though it's by far the best move if you expect they can make a turnaround.  While those who don't have faith in sony think it's a great idea.

These people actually own significant chunks of these companies based on shares, so if that's their opinion so be it.

No one really has made much money off video games in the last 10-15 years in total other than Nintendo really. Sega/MS/Sony have made varying degrees of money only to have it wiped out later on or something.

It's honestly not that great of a business.

And now even Nintendo is struggling to make money. Somehow Wii U is sold at loss and 3DS is not selling as much software as they wanted, after a heavy price cut.
