It may, MS is in a tough spot.  While they dominate the shrinking world of PC's and are a big player in the also shrinking console market, they are a non factor in emerging technologies.  XBox division has had the positive impact of delivering games to the windows destop, making it the defacto home standard.  The xbox division has not however generated much money for shareholders.  Shareholders with voting stock want return on investment and there is not any certainty that that will happen with xbox division (about a 3 billion dollar loss over the last ten years if reports are to be believed). Shareholders are not gamers.

Yea that's right, they are gamblers. Investors/Shareholders are important to the economy because if nobody financed risky projects many many cool/revolutionary ideas wouldn't have been realized, yet investing always is gambling, even if you put your money into the "stable"/"safe" companies.
