I will NEVER accept him. Never.

Bale will always be Batman. ALWAYS.

Seriously? Why do people like Bales batman so much? I loved Nolan's trilogy, but Bale's Batman may actually have been the worst thing about the Dark Knight Trilogy. I tolerated it more than I enjoyed it.

Your in the minority my friend. Go look at the responses, It's about as bad as it was when the XB1 introduced always online and DRM. It's that bad.

It's just that simple.

In the minority of what? Thinking that Christian Bale is not the be all end all of Batmans? I'm happy to be in that minority. There is never just one person that can play a role and even if there was I'm certain Christian Bale would not be the one.

If your talking about the choice of Affleck as Batman let me just say that I'm not thrilled about Affleck but at the very least I think he won't be terrible and his dialogue may actually be audible, which is more than I can say for Bale.

Will be better than Bale. I am amazed at how many supposed Batman fans praise the Nolan films despite butchering the source material.

Because making good movies is about more than following the source material 100%.

If cannot follow source material shouldn't be naming them after such.

So, out of curiousity, can you tell me which comic book adaptation since the year 2000 DID follow the source material?

This can turn out to be really good, they most likely thought it out really well, so I don't think they made a bad choice.

Ben Affleck is set to star as Batman in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel sequel, Warner Bros. has announced.

“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman," added director Snyder. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”

I was actually going to defend the choice of Affleck till I read that quote...  Seriously, the idea of Batman is a mentor to Superman is stupid.  DC faithful can correct me if I'm wrong (make mine Marvel), but I'm pretty sure Batman and Superman are supposed to have an equal relationship.  Definitely not enough respect, but Batman certainly wouldn't be a mentor to Superman ESPECIALLY when it comes to staying upbeat.

The problem with this movie isn't going to be Affleck.  The problem is that the Dark Knight was so successful that they tried to Dark Knightify Superman without really understanding the specific needs of that character.

Oh noez, I didn't actually read carefully the OP or even the thread title  : are they really mixing crappy Superman with Batman? Then Ben Assfleck is the smallest of their problems. Batman vs. Superman, that's not even jumping the shark, it's more like putting diarrhea instead of caramel and chocolate sauce on your ice-cream...

Dude! The Dark Knight Returns. Watch it, read it, live it.

The thing is that comic books and movies are different.  Within the world of comics, you can easily have a half a dozen or more interpretations of the same character running around at the same time in different books.  Different art styles, different writers, and so on at the same time.  With movies, you'll generally have one interpretation of a character dominating for 5 years to a decade.  This also is typically the most prominent and enduring image of that character.  Team ups work great in comics, but in movies, they're really tricky.

Even in the Dark Knight Returns Batman is old and grizzled with gray hair while superman *looks* young. Not because hes much younger than batman but because Superman doesn't age as quickly as normal humans so they are actually about the same age in that book.

The movie seems to want to make Batman literally older than superman and treat superman like a little punk kid. I don't know of any comic where batman was  "mentor" to superman. Superman isn't some circus performer or street kid turned orphan, hes a god, he doesn't need batmans tutelage. One of the cool things about the Superman, Batman relationship in the comics is that they have very different world views, one doesn't influence the other, they simply respect their differences and leave it at that. Superman deserves more respect than WB is giving him. He deserves to be a character with his own moral code and not someone that has to learn his morality from someone else (Apparently batman is going to teach him "not to kill" ).
