Ben Affleck is set to star as Batman in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel sequel, Warner Bros. has announced.

“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman," added director Snyder. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”

I was actually going to defend the choice of Affleck till I read that quote...  Seriously, the idea of Batman is a mentor to Superman is stupid.  DC faithful can correct me if I'm wrong (make mine Marvel), but I'm pretty sure Batman and Superman are supposed to have an equal relationship.  Definitely not enough respect, but Batman certainly wouldn't be a mentor to Superman ESPECIALLY when it comes to staying upbeat.

The problem with this movie isn't going to be Affleck.  The problem is that the Dark Knight was so successful that they tried to Dark Knightify Superman without really understanding the specific needs of that character.

Oh noez, I didn't actually read carefully the OP or even the thread title  : are they really mixing crappy Superman with Batman? Then Ben Assfleck is the smallest of their problems. Batman vs. Superman, that's not even jumping the shark, it's more like putting diarrhea instead of caramel and chocolate sauce on your ice-cream...

Dude! The Dark Knight Returns. Watch it, read it, live it.

The thing is that comic books and movies are different.  Within the world of comics, you can easily have a half a dozen or more interpretations of the same character running around at the same time in different books.  Different art styles, different writers, and so on at the same time.  With movies, you'll generally have one interpretation of a character dominating for 5 years to a decade.  This also is typically the most prominent and enduring image of that character.  Team ups work great in comics, but in movies, they're really tricky.
