It looks like it has a very similar budget to the rest of high profile projects (maybe slightly below Bayonetta, but certainly as much as Vanquish).

Kamiya already confirmed it's 1.5 times the budget of Bayonetta.

We're looking at what is far and away his most expensive game yet.

Wow. Do you have a link?

That would ensure this to lose a ton of money.

http://www.nowgamer.com/news/1992988/wii_u_kamiya_concerned_over_wonderful_101s_limited_hype.html

"Kamiya added that The Wonderful 101 has cost the developer 1.5 times that of Bayonetta - which was concerned a commercial failure despite its critical praise."

I'd point out Bayonetta sold about  450k at full price for first week across all regions, translating to about $9 million going to Sega assuming the US margins are true for the rest of the world.

That wasn't enough to cover their costs, price cuts ensued, and later at nearly 2 million units sold across two platforms, they supposedly barely made a profit.

HOT DAMN!!! this game is looking to flop; it will need the most incredible legs to break even

I shudder to think of what Bayonetta 2's budget is...

I'm not even sure Pikmin 3 will recoup its development costs, as its probably the most expensive Pikmin game to make and will likely end up selling the least of the series.

So W101 was always in tough.

Nintendo's best bet with the game is to push the buy Pikmin 3 + W101 line and get $30 off on the eShop.

Unfortunately I think both 101 and Bayo2 probably won't do as well as Nintendo was banking on and Platinum and Nintendo will cut ties after Bayo2 ships. Nintendo tends to bail on 2nd party partners when they are unprofitable.

:/

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Nintendo is making more like $30-$35 for each exclusive. But do you seriously think this game had a budget around $500,000?

The game looks like crap, so yeah.  Looks more like this could be released as a $15 Wii U eshop game rather than a $60 retail release.

What the actual fuck... I don't even own a WiiU and know that this is as far off the truth as it gets. My god. My mind is blown.

And yes, to further disprove your half a million claim, here, another link: http://www.polygon.com/2013/8/7/4597900/why-the-wonderful-101-doesnt-really-begin-until-the-second-playthrough

"We've never used this size of a team and this amount of time to build a game before,"

'There's X amount of content until the ending,' I will say that there's more volume to this game than Bayonetta."

Consider what you post before hitting that button (unless you think Bayonetta was worth >$15 at the time of its launch, because if so, there's no conversation to have here)

Wow so this will flop, so sad for platinum :(

Examples?  I'm not too familiar with Nintendo's second party other than ... xenoblade's production company... MONOLITH!!  That's the name.

Rare and Factor 5 both got dumped as sales of their games declined. Silicon Knights was let go after both ED and MGS: TS didn't perform great either. Left Field was also let go as 1080 Avalanche didn't perform all that great. Nintendo tends to cut bait quickly if they view a development partner as a declining or non-profitable asset.

If Bayonetta 2 does not pull in a tidy profit for Nintendo, my guess is that's the last of Nintendo working with Platinum.

Rare was a sad case.  Factor 5 was more or less them going on their own; though you're right about Nintendo being wishy/washy with them.  Silicon Knights is another story; Dyack is an idiot and apparently he was happy to be gone from Nintendo.  Never heard of Left Field :/

Just curious, do you think Bayo 2 will turn a profit?

Depending on the budget the odds may not be so good...

Platinum just can't catch a break
